Re: blocking heat crossover



working with a 340, haven't ever seen metal gaskets for these, Anyhoo i have a fel pro intake set i picked up this morning, haven't opened it yet, but assume they are "non-metal". As to the RTV which color?  copper? As to the intake gaskets do they  go on dry or with sealant? Dry as I recall.

On all my personal engines and engine builds I always block the heat crossover passage to prevent superheating the plenum which causes cracks over time in cast iron manifolds and can pose the same problem in aluminum intakes.  Second reason is to prevent superheating the plenum to increase power – factory designed this for easy startup in cold weather.  Our winter temps are teens, twenties and thirties and I never run a choke and always block the heat crossover; no issues at all in any of my engines and one has been performing admirably for thirty years.
