Re: Off topic 71 Plymouth

If motor is original to car, lower water pump snout will be on passenger side, alternator brackets will be a triangular plate with a drop back as opposed to the earlier triangle which was perfectly flat. Unless its an AC car then i don't know what that looks like.  Except alternator pulley would have two grooves . I can dig thru my stuff for my old 273 motor mounts/ elephant ears, if u need pictures.

the oil filter thing is a 90 degree adapter. stock on 340 motors, but I have a 318 that has one too. come to think of it my old 273 had one too. To my knowledge Valiants were never released with a 340, darts, dusters, demons, cudas yes, valiants don't think so. Please correct me if i am wrong.Unless we want to call the 70 duster a valiant, which it was at least according to its badging.

It is a 318 org 230 hp made in Windsor, he had it bored.40 over (sounds like a lot), high rise carb, cam of some sort, it's a race car he says.  He thinks is poly but he says it was the stock motor, he said the oil filter runs the same direction as the block, like a starter sits, if that helps.  Weird sounding I know.  But this car is out of my knowledge base. He also said it's a number matching car.  He took this thing apart 15 years ago, and is now trying to put it together again.

If it is the original V-8 1971 Valiant, then it is a 318 or 340, both LA engines. You'll have to find out which it is. 340 seems probable.

If someone put a Poly 318 (A engine) in the Valiant that's very cool, though.

Thanks,
