Re: [SPAM] Re: wiper motor question

The original poster mentioned looking at a manual. Ya really need an original Factory Manual for your car to get the original data, drawings, etc, etc.

Available on CD for nominal prices. That and the collected experience of the folks here who know and love these old beasts.

Here's what I've learned dealing with variable-speed wipers on my '65 Polara:

The motor linkage is designed such that the motor runs one way for normal
wiper operation until you turn the switch to off. The motor then reverses
direction to "park" the wiper blades below the normal area of travel, an
area which can only be reached by running the motor in that direction.

The motor has a switch built into it called the "park" switch which can be
adjusted to set the parking position of the wiper blades. When the dash
switch is off, the "park" switch allows the wipers to run backwards until
the position at which the "park" switch is tripped and then everything is

I believe the service manual includes some basic electrical tests for the
dash switch and other components of the system.

Needing help to get started is likely either a lack of lubrication or worn
brushes on the motor.

have a feeling that the motor is just fine,,,,,,,the motor has a

Hi all,

A 1965 Dodge owner was telling me the car's wiper motor "just rotates
once and stops, it needs a little help to get it to go also. The repair
manual indicates it should rotate continuously."

Any thoughts? By the way, are windshield wiper motors being rebuilt
nowadays by any vendor?
