Re: '65 426-S Sport Fury 4-Speeds

I didn't realize my post to John Lee would show up here too. He's a member of my local WPC club and is an automotive journalist. I was just wondering if he was the author of the book mentioned.

"Flanged sleeve" isn't the terminology I would use. It was basically a floor pan patch that was stamped with a different contour than the factory floor pan to give more room on the underside where the shifter is. It also provided the finished hole where the shift lever would pass through and a boot/seal could be attached.

The definitive proof of all this, aside from experience, is the 1965 parts catalog. There is only a single part number for the front floor pan of any body style:

23-32-22 PAN, Front Floor

B-bodies got 2529986, C-bodies got 2484519, A-bodies got one of two part numbers depending on the model and whether or not it was a wagon.

The "patch" that was added to manual floor-shift cars similarly has a unique number for each body series:

23-32-29 COVER, Front Floor Pan Gearshift Opening

B-bodies got 2481594, C-bodies got 2484987, A-bodies got 2481593.

Regards,

Dave Casey

Interesting.

So they did a quality hack job to the floor then put a flanged sleeve in it. Is that correct?
