Re: Commando 273 Valve Cover Restoration

Not knowing anything about the 273 engines, why did the factory offer a high performance  version when the 318 was available? Was it a racing rules thing?..OH, maybe because the 318 did not come out with the LA until later? ...........................MO

I need to restore the valve covers on a 1965 Commando small block. This is the 4bbl version of the 273 V8, with higher output rated at 235hp.
Mopar differentiated it visually from the 2bbl using black crinkle painted valve covers, with aluminum fins on the top.

I want to remove the fins, but can't figure out how they're held on. Absolutely nothing shows on the underside fo the cover. No spot weld evidence, nothing.
How are these affixed and how do you remove them? I don't want to pry on an aluminum extrusion.
