Hi fellas and gal,
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Mopar Actions' recommendations on axle bearings. The OEM tapered bearings are far superior in side load capacity.
MikeMike I tended to agree with you. But the argument that other makes  have successfully  used the ball bearing design for years, and the tech article from Dr Diff.  telling of improvements to the " Green bearing" has made for second thoughts for me.
When we took my axle out, with the bad  cone style bearing, we could not see why that bearing failed with probably less than 1000 miles. One possibility-- when  I put in the new cone style Timpkins, I did not get the end play set right. I usually double and triple check things, but??
This "Green Bearing" kit includes new heavy duty retainers. and will be easy to install, and the whole purpose is to eliminate end play adjustments.
So, since I don't do high side thrust type driving, I will give em a try..............................MO

 I think I have a rear
axle bearing going out, So I have been doing some research
on the non adjustable Green bearings. Green is actually the
name of the company that makes them. They have been bought
out by another company, but still retains the Green name
 .
My best source of Info is from
Dr. Differential tech article. ( who could be better??) The
early bearings are RP 400 and have a crimped on 5 hole
retainer which will not allow for any "wiggle" in
the bearing . Most axle housings , even new ones are not
perfectly straight. and between tha,t and those bearings are
inserted in the housing deeper, results in pre-loading
against the thrust block, and can lead to early bearing
failure. So-- that must be the reason for the pros and the
cons. Those bearings are still being sold by some sources
including Mopar Performance parts ( alledgedly)
Now, there is a newer style "Green" bearing, # MO
400 that is installed with a snap ring and supposedly has
taken care of the problems the older bearings (has)- had.
In the past, I have been against the use of Green bearings,
but with ease of installation, I just might give them a try.
