HE can run  without the kick down but he would have to shift manually.  Best bet is to have the kick down.  Mopars need the pressure to keep clutches from slipping.

Heck a kick down is fun.  But there are plenty of street rods out there that don’t run them, especially light T-buckets or 800hp+ engines for safety.  I have no kick down on a turbo 400 behind a 472 Cadillac in a street rod – been driving it that way since the early ‘90’s......

The owner of a '64 Barracuda pulls into our cruise last night. Showing us his new 360 LA install. While talking about the intake and carb he said I could not hook up the kickdown linkage, so I'm just going to leave it disconnected because I don't need passing gear anyway. I thought doing this would harm the tranny, but could not remembered what it was. Does anyone know what the problem or damage may be so I can pass it along.
