More woes. The new yoke was a very tight fit and I had a hard time getting it installed. Got in a hurry and used a socket and hammer to pound it on. I should know better than that , but it was at night and no other way to put it on then. SOOO, now I have a gear or bearing whine/growl comeing from the rear at 1800-2200 RPM in high gear under slight acceleration. ....Does a 742 differential have a crush sleeve on the pinion ?
Also.. This differential was completly re-built with new ring and pinion , and the clutch type sure grip overhauled. Bought on e bay from a vendor. The sure grip worked well with old hard street tires, but after putting on the sticky Nittos, it just lays a little bit of rubber on the right tire track. I am using regular diff gear oil with the Mopar additive for sure grip. I would guess the clutch disc in the S.G. is slipping to much? Any idea's or solutions? ......................MO

It is a broken rear yoke, and of course ruined a U joint. Put a ding in the driveshaft, but I think it will be OK. The driveshaft was set up for 7290 U joints, but the diff .yoke is for a 7260 using a combo U joint. I will get a 7290 yoke that uses the U bolts instead of the cap straps. Crunch time as the local car show is Saturday. ..............................

First try out of a medium launch on new heavy duty springs resulted in what I think was the stock snubber whacking the floor and a big fuel bog. 4 speed tranny and sure- lock I just finished clamping the leaf springs- two on the front segment and one on the back segment ( per side). It sure stiiffened up those springs.
They were right-- get some traction tires and the next weak link will show up. Still have the fuel bog. The driveshaft let loose at I think a U joint. Stuck out on a highway, getting towards dark , and very little shoulder. Got the car pulled to a side road and called a tow truck. . He was able to park it right in my garage. I was so aggravated , I didn't want to even look...afraid to find a broken yoke and a bent driveshaft.( new).. I will find out the bad news tomorrow..............................MO
