Re: front suspension

Just to make you feel bad.... I replaced all of the parts mentioned above, and it still drove like crap.  Wasn't till I put in the new steering box that things got better.  Hope your results are much better than mine.  BTW, after the steering box and new radial tires, it's a one handed drive on the highway with only slight adjustments.... no more chasing it from side to side. Totally worth it.

I changed the rear springs to super stock shortly after buying it 10 years ago.  The idler arm has also been changed a little more recently.  Pitman arm wasn't identified by the mechanic who looked at it as needing replacement.  I'm assuming the other things you mention will be replaced as needed when the balance of the work is done.

I took my 63 to the shop today for a front end alignment.  I had turned up the torsion bars for  more ground clearance.  Well they told me I need new ball joints upper and lower and new tie rod ends, plus a radius arm bushing (?).  They estimated the job at $1200.  I'm thinking I can do most of the work myself and save $$$$.  I've priced the parts on Rock Auto and they are probably less than $200.  Any pitfalls in doing this work?
