Re: Insurance claims

I went to that AMIG just now, as I hadn't heard of that one until member Ricky Hall put it up here.  Here is a paragraph from their website:

"We only offer an agreed value total loss settlement. Before the policy activates, you as the car’s owner, the agent, and our underwriters agree on the car’s value and insure it for that amount. In the event of a total loss, that agreed upon value is the payout amount. The deductible of course applies, but there is no depreciation and no misunderstanding."

That seems to say that a collector vehicle is covered only for a total loss.  In other words, if someone swipes against you in a parking lot causing you to have to get a replacement fender, paint it, and install it, you would receive no reimbursement from them.  Am I interpreting that right?  I can see how that would keep costs lower for the insurance though.

From what I can see looking at the collector car insurance websites, they do cover the owner for liability for all vehicles under ONE umbrella liability policy, similar in price to what I pay in liability premium for EACH of my regular daily cars, then the physical damage is rated per car based on what it is and value, etc.  I griped at my agent about this, asking why can't conventional insurers do this.  After all, I can only drive one car at a time.  His answer was that I could be letting any number of people drive my cars without the company's knowledge, but they would still have to pay out a liability claim caused by anyone driving my car (with my permission).  But, I countered, that would apply to my collector cars too....  No real answer to that except "we just don't".

Been with Grundy for years, only  thing I have an issue with is they increase the value of my vehicle each year and the premium goes up, but have not had a claim to date, 3 vehicles at 37K  each value $791 cost for full coverage stated value. Might want to check them out. Nico
