Re: Upgrade for a Slant-6

Lyle, Great article(s).  I bookmarked both #1 and #2 and will refer back when I get to an upgrade.  Probably will go with a future 2bbl upgrade since I already have the intake, but use the Carter vs Holley (personal preference).  The exhaust upgrade is especially eye-opening, as I had not considered the restriction on a Slant 6 that is apparently prevalent.  I have a Petronex electronic set for the Slant 6, but haven't tackled that yet.  Once I get it driveable, with the current 1bbl set-up, body work, headliner, etc can be accomplished over the Winter in Ohio, an paint and some additional upgrades next Spring.  At least, that is the plan...

Hi Larry

Have you been following the MOPAR MUSCLE series on 'Making the slant six make sense?

Link is: https://www.hotrod.com/articles/making-slant-six-sense-part-2/ . I guess you could pick and choose what parts you would want to utilize.

I hope this is helpful.

I have a 225 Slant 6 in my 64 Barracuda.  Runs good when it runs.  Unfortunately, it sets for extended periods of time (it's an Ohio thing - Winter-related).  Current rusty gas tank is in the process of being replaced (new tank, sending unit, rubber seal and pad).  I am trying to get it to start off of a small gas can to move it so I can replace the tank, etc, and am getting gas through the pump to the carb, and through the in-line filter, but I can not see any gas  into the carb (it will start for a few seconds with gas down the carb or with starting fluid).  Guess tomorrow I will disassemble the carb to look at the floats, etc.

Question:  Is anyone making a 1-bbl replacement for the 225?  Or, I do have an intake for a 2-bbl carb and could go that way, but the accelerator set-up for those carbs are pretty specific to the /6.  What would I look for in a new 1-bbl or 2bbl 225 carb?

PS:  Received the quarter panel patch panels for the Barracuda today from Classic Industries (they had a 10% cost break) and that is in the offing too.  They look OK and the lines are pretty close.  Still mulling over paint color choices....Thoughts?

Thanks,

Larry
