Heater Valve Rebuild was OEM air cleaner?

    • NAPA sells a five button heater control vacuum switch that can be modified to work on 1962 to 1965 Mopars. The NAPA-Echlin part number is HC205. UPDATE December 25, 2006: Mark from NAPA writes: It appears that there are quite a few of these switches left, though they have been dropped from the computer prior to 1971 or 1972. If you do want one or more, you’ll have to ask for it by the number. It will have to be shipped in from Virginia, so would take a few days to get there. Not that our cars are usually used as daily transportation, anyway. I’m a fan who doesn’t want these parts destroyed when the company gets tired of warehousing them. As far as I know, this isn’t imminent. But don’t wait too long, just in case!  UPDATE July 2008: the switches are still available through NAPA as of this time! Update February 20, 2012:
or contact this guy to get your rebuilt if he is still doing it. aepowell66@xxxxxxxxx

I owned both /6 and a 318 '64 and '65 cars in the late 60's and early 70's. Couldn't afford the big block cars back then. All I have to work with today is the sales catalogs. As much as I've studied them and the fact that I own two '65 now, it's hard for me to know what is original when it comes to an air cleaner housing on mine.

I defer to what you have.

Don, it is not a California car. It was built in St. Louis and has been in Missouri it's entire life. I bought it this summer and I am the second titled owner.

Both brochures shows the full size air cleaner on the 383. It's black with the snorkel.

I'm putting together a 1965 Satellite with the 383 4 bbl so I'd like to know what source you're using to say the small air cleaner is the right one because I'd like to get it right. Maybe it's a California car?

No. I have two sales catalogs from 1965 and neither show that air cleaner housing.   They are larger than that one.

Does anyone know if this air cleaner appears to be original for a 1965 Satellite 383 (it's on a Carter AFB)? Should it have a decal?     Bill Stevson
