Wheel base

What is the deal with the wheel base on these cars my 64 Dodge is 119 and I believe the 64 Plymouth is 116. I read a story about they were trying to keep up with gm and gm was shrinking the impala but they got the wrong info they came out with the chevy 2 and the impala stayed the same. Mopar went 116 because of that but then the next year they went 119. Then back to 116. Crazy stuff for the same platform two different wheel bases.
