on my '64 fury with the 440 and 2" primary tube headers i have ~1.5" at its closest point to the inner fender (see attached).  albeit the headers are TTI.  i'm also using schumacher magnum poly-loc insulators on the motor mounts. 

some questions:
did you remove the motor mounts from the engine when you swapped the headers?  and maybe did not re-attach correctly.
are you running raised exhaust port heads on your '65?
you mention that the motor mount was twisted (although the way you described it, you should have more room on the passenger side) could that be the culprit ?

let me know if you want me to take any measurements on my car.

Put a set of 2" Doug's Heads (D452) on my 440 powered '65 Belvedere yesterday. Incredibly easy install. 

HOWEVER, after I was all done, I went to pull the light blanket I was using to protect the paint and the tube from #2 cylinder which runs above the rest of the tubes to the back was essentially resting on the passenger inner fenderwell. I did noticed the motor mount on that side was twisted to the driver's side. The CL of the crank was 5" above the K frame and the offset to the passenger side was 3", both of  which nearly meets TTI's suggested distance but are a little tight but by only 1/4". 

Anybody experience this or have any suggestions to correct this situation? Not looking to going to an engine plate.
