If you used it before continue using it. The pertronix just replaces the points thats it. You may have to readjust the timing. I used that settup in my 54 lincoln and it didnt like it so I went back to points. I had to mess with the timing. It just seemed to run better with the points. My mopar had issues with points. A new set from the parts store would last 100 miles. I found that the plastic or nylon they used that ran on the cam would disintegrate. I checked the cam and it was smooth and had lube on it so it wasnt that. The points at the parts stores they sell now are cheap garbage. I didn't go pertronx because I didnt like them in my lincoln. I got the proform setup tryed that and it was great until it got real hot then no spark from the ignition box. It would die out and you were stuck. I chased my tail for awhile it wouldnt do it all the time so that made it hard, you would think brand new stuff would not do that. Then I saved up and got the msd whole setup and I have not had a problem since. Some people had issues with msd I had good luck with them. Hope this helps.

I just replaced the points in my '65 383 dual-point distributor with a Pertronix III Ignitor (also got their flame thrower coil) and can't find any info on whether or not I still need the vacuum advance hooked up. I haven't gotten a reply to my questions from their tech dept. Wondering if anyone here knows. Bill
