Re: Welcome new member - 1962 Chrysler 300H and New Yorker wagon

What I’ve done several times is cut out the excess and weld back together. I did some
like that well before I owned a MIG welder, way back when I gas welded a lot, and gas welding worked very nicely. A poor weld could of course be catastrophic to the engine.

Attached.
It is a 9" run of the straight pipe.  Then it bends towards the screen.
That 9" run is probably 2" too long.
That is a screen that I hacksawed off the threads & tried to cut new ones with a new Die.
In doing so, I bent the pipe & smashed the screen a bit; so I have a new one coming any day now.
My plan was to take it to a friend who has MUCH better tools AND a vice!
Thanks!

Hey Matt  can you post a picture of the new pickup?    Hate to see you cut and rethread the new one.   I had a new pick up split on me  caused cavitation in the oil ( air bubbles)  wich ultimately chewed up the crank and I had to get another crank and cost me a forged crank.   Doesn’t really matter I put in a 73 cast steel crank  different than normal cast iron.   Anyway. Point is if I can find one that is correct you would not need to cut that one.

I am building a 383 for the 1962 Chrysler 300 Sport.  I think the block is a 1969 casting.  I bought an Oil Pan from Rock Auto that is for the '62 Chrysler.  I bought a Melling 63S2 Oil Pick Up Screen.  The length of the Screen is longer than the 5" depth of the Pan.  Anyone know a secret fix?  I Plan to cut down the Oil Pickup & rethread it at this point.

Thanks!
