Re: Oil

I love the stuff the dailys get changed every year they get between 8 and 10k and the antiques every other year. Expensive but worth it. When you get close to the end I do have to add but its on the high mileage cars.

Greetings Gents,

I usually don’t respond to any questions, but….I happen to be an Independent AMSOIL dealer.

There is a lot of technology that goes into our products and the newer dealers have courses to pass on products we sell… That being said feel free to do a YOUTUBE search on side by side product test and see who always come out on top.

Our Z-Rod products in various viscosities are available with worry free usage ,..hell our guarantee is in print on the back of the packaging : 5k miles or 2 years,…..

Feel free to request a free catalogue or make a purchase !

On Rottela, I'd heard they'd started dropping the ZDDP  in it a few years ago. May have cost me a cam and a $1,000 so I just moved on to known products.

Jim,

My choice of oil is Driven brand synthetic 10w-30w or 10w-40w depending on bearing clearances and/or lifter bore sleeve design/clearance in certain roller cam applications.  A synthetic oil will appropriate ZDDP in the formula for flat-tappet cams is superior to any conventional oil in the realm of lubricity, asphaltene absorption, high temperature tolerance, and wear-protection of internal engine parts.  That being said, any conventional oil with a ZDDP additive is fine for most all HP engines, flat-tappet or roller, but for those 500+ builds, a synthetic in the proper weight will be the best choice.

Gents,

I'm sure this has been beaten to death over the years.  But I'll open the can of worms anyway.  A friend who just got a 1968 Z28 asked my opinion and I myself have different notions in my own head, but it's a relevant question for our old cars.

What do you use for oil in an older high performance engine?  I use synthetic with a Zinc additive.  But who says I'm right?  I've heard Rotella and other things as well.  I'm interested in your opinions.

Thanks.
