1956 Firedome - Radials or Bias Ply?

I'm looking for some advice on which type of tires to get for my '56 DeSoto Firedome. The BF Goodrich Silvertown Wide Whitewall radials from Coker Tire would probably be best for performance and durability but they are so expensive compared to bias ply.

-Is it worth the extra money for radials? Will there be a substantial improvement compared to bias ply tires?

Also, should I be concerned with tire clearance problems? The Firedome's wheel wells seem pretty spacious so I would like to get the widest tires possible. Which size would be best? P215/70R15, P225/70R15, P235/70R15, or P255/70R15? The rims are original. Should I get new wider wheels for these sizes of radial tires or would the original rims work?

Thank you very much!
