Manual Transmission Gear Ratios Vary with Application

The transmission will physically bolt up to a 318 bellhousing, but the V-8 manual transmissions used a wider gear ratio and heavier duty bearings. This would involve changing the countershaft, some of the other gears, plus both bearings. V-8 cars generally used a numerically lower (higher) gear ratio in the differential.
