I believe it's something to do with different water pumps and systems (it's quite a deep and complicated explanation). You should be able to get hold of a threaded stud to screw in the hole from you local auto store or a plumbing/gas spares retailer. The thread is tapered though so it will have to be inserted from the top, spreading some sealant round the thread first before tightening up. Hope this helps. Ian.
