My '59 Plymouth 230 has eaten two sets of points and a new condenser in just 2000 miles. I have a ballast resistor that drops voltage to the coil to about eight volts. The coil is not wired backwards. I also received a nasty shock while touching the air cleaner while looking things over with the engine running. The plug wires aren't touching anything they shouldn't be. The engine harness is only a few years old and isn't damaged. Any ideas?
