My first choice would be a poly 318,(1957-1961). Just about any "A" engine up to and including a 392 hemi will bolt to your transmission. The crank shaft has to be the early type with the rear flange sticking out from the block. Since the cranks are interchangeable, you could use a later "LA" engine with an early crank.
