Tim....Sound like a fabric reinforced sheet compound. If its black, it could be either Buna-N or Neoprene. The Vitons when you hold them to the light seem to have a slight brown colour to the black. One way to check would be to take a few pieces and immerse into several different solvents to know for sure. Before I would do that, I would certainly ask the place that sold it who made it and contact them. Reasoning for asking is that here in the States we have some "interesting" oxygenated fules for emissions reasons tha *could* react with one type of rubber, but not others. Most "O" rings (or injector donuts) are now made from Viton compounds for this reason plus the temperature range the rubber stays pliable (-35 C to +125 C). If you can determine, let us know. We may need to modify our compounds for the areas we live in.
