I would say who ever told you that story was full of air, just like the tires they were talking about. If you up-grade to a radial type tire, the original steel rims that you have on your wagon, are just fine for this purpose. I have known many people to up-grade to radial tires from the original bias ply tires, and they had no problems what so ever with thier rims or tires... Furthermore, they had nothing but praise for the improved handling, and safety of thier car overall. In fact, they have told me that they would never go back to the old fashion bias ply tires again. Don't listen to everything you're told...Most people will shy away from something that is new to the market. However, once it has been around for a while, these people become more accepting of it. A prime example of this is computers. Not that long ago, people wanted nothing to do with them. Today, you can find them in just about every home in North America. My grandmother has one for goodness sakes.
