Shop manual may help as to what maintenance is required back there.... However if they are same as my 56, and I asssume they are, Be sure you do not intermix any shims you may remove when doing any work back there. Said shims, located at the outer axle flange to the backing plate, provide spacing/clearance at the differential for proper meshing. Outer ones EZ to do, inner ones at the axle outer end are the ones to watch out for.
