Solenoids for automatics usually have connection to neutral safety switch

As you can infer from Al's post, manual transmission solenoids have no connection to a neutral safety switch (as found on automatic transmissions), although in the last few model years of cars you'll find many with connections to a clutch safety switch that does not permit the car to start until the clutch pedal is depressed.
