firstly thanks for all the previous input. I found to problems. Firslty the point gap was to great. The actual breaker set when trying to adjust was fouling on a small spring clip inside the distributor base. and I cound't close the gap enough to have it right! Secondly the wire from the points hat exit the distributor to the coil, inside the rubber seal on the distributor had a make shift join and I just pulled on it lightly and the wire broke. I replaced the wire, rechecked the points, set the timing and the car runs fantastic. thanks again everyone for the replies 1957 savoy 2 door hardtop back on the road again!
