Location: Las Vegas, Nevada | Here are some pix from a brochure I snagged on eBay last year. I am guessing this was some sort of concept or show car from Chrysler. I do not know if one was ever built and displayed. Would you say it shows some of the lines incorporated into the '55 & up Forward Look cars?

Yeah, .... smooth over that grille, and you have the back end of a 60 Dart !
Looks a lot like signature Nash or Hudson coachwork of the period. They built a couple funky 2-seaters about that time too. Exner got a little more "spicy" with the other show cars he designed in this period. You all seen the new 300 ? The front end / grille looks REAL close to one of his concept cars of this series! Lord Virgil lives! All hail Lord Exner! |

Location: Farmingdale NJ | This has to be one of the most unique, american made, early 50's cars Ive ever seen. Does anyone know how many there are, or is this a concept one-off? I dont mean to be blasphemous, but it looks more Harly Earl than Exner. Or at least Earl front end with Exner hind quarters. and how about that shifter location!!!...must be an automatic. The brochure pics show a different shifter location with a clutch pedal. You can defineately see the 55-56 shape to the bumpers. ...........I want one.

Not certain, but I seem to remember the car was a 6 cylinder... I learned that year to take a separate picture of the car's plaque so I would know what it said; I tried blowing up the one in the photo but the angle is such that it is almost impossible to read... the link is from that show, announcing the car's sale...

Location: Parts Unknown | One of these early Exner show cars that looks similar to the Fire Arrow bears a remarkable resemblence to the new 300 in the front. Have you seen one yet? It really is a close facsimile thereof. Of course, Exner designed them FOR Chrysler, so they can use the design all they want! Funny that it shows up some 50 years after the fact !!! |

Location: Ocala, Florida | The local Chrysler dealer has a couple. I think they look neat. Should give Caddy and Lincoln a good run for thier money. The Chrysler is a much better car, better looking and much, much more inexpensive. |

Location: Pau, S-W France | According to the "std catalog" (which has a special chapter about "dream cars") the Belmont was constructed of fiberglass by Chrysler engeneers (...) The car has a '54 Dodge chassis and engine coupled with Hy-Drive trans. The color was a light metallic blue ...
It wasn't built by Ghia, the '54 Ghia Plymouth "dream car" was the Explorer which was a 2 pass. sport coupe. |

Location: Milan, Italy | It's a pity all these beauty remained just show cars not for production. All the cars mentioned were build in Italy by the famous Body shop GHIA in Turin, which Exner collaborated with in the 50s.

Location: Golden, CO | The front & rear bumpers of the Belmont look like they came off the rear of a 53/54 Dodge or possibly Plymouth. Looked awfully familiar (my 53 Coronet convertible).

Very much. Except that they modified them with a new center section and simpler bumperettes.

While reading through the May-June issue of the Hagerty magazine (great magazine - almost worth the fees for the magazine alone), I came upon an article about an Austin Healey 3000 that made my brain go "Wait a minute", I know that front end.
What I remembered was the 1954 Plymouth Belmont:
1962 Austin Healey 3000 (I think Healey did a better job of it):

Location: Branson, MO | When dad was a DeSoto-Plymouth dealer back then, I remember seeing a Belmont in person and it didn’t make a positive impression on me.
The one that did was the DeSoto Adventurer. Now that was the best concept car of any the Chrysler models of that era in my opinion. |
