OK. Who has successfully/failed/gave up/allmost/whatever, managed to come up with a way, to fit the 14" Fwdlk wheelcovers over to a 15" wheel!?
I took a couple of FWD 14' wheels measured the bead lip, and where the wheelcover goes, and if I can find somebody with a lathe, to cut just that portion off, I can lightly weld that 'ring' onto a 15" wheel. It just's mooves the lip where the wheel cover goes, back, or in, a 1/2"
However, I don't know what to do with the existing 15" wheel valve stem/hole. It's in a differnt location than the 14" wheelcover hole for the V stem.
I do NOT want to put two heavy welds, (air/liquitd tight weld) that close together on a wheel, then pressurize the 14" V stem, for fear of the flexible wheel proprities, or screwing up the carbon content of the wheel, causing the bead lip or up on behind the 14" lip, to break on either side of the weld, while mooving!
The reason I said a light weld (pre heat a little ,weld, post heat a little, then cooled gradually over night/day, in a pile of sand.
The 14" 'ring' needs to be pretty much sealed, so water doesn't get trapped between where the '14" ring goes and the 15" wheel.
Anybody have any ideas?

The OM stainless 'dog dish' caps (Plaza, Savoy) and the run of the mill 'double hump' 15" beauty rings, don't look good with skirts,,,,,,,, ( my opnion) a skirtless 'vert looks 'naked.'
Black wheels, too much overall black, any other color wheel, looks too 'funky'.
'Dog dish' and beauty rings looks good on a sedan!
It was an idea on how to get readley many sizes of 75 series of 15" LT RWL tires, (only a 70 series is made in 14") shaved into a WW, and use the OM 14" wheel cover. Thanks anyway fer yer idear,,,,,

No Dummy

Try putting the 14" Cover attached to a 15" beauty ring.

if you were to weld that wheel, you would seriously screw up the balance of it. It would take a monstrous amount of wheel weights to correct it, and more than likely you would still get an annoying vibration.

Perhaps one could take some 15" wheel covers and with some careful disection, mate the mounting surface to the 14" instead of trying to change the properties of the wheel.

As for the valve-stem hole, there is no real way to accomplish this because you can't physically expand the 14" wheelcover to the dimensions of a 15".

Stevie P. Not 100% sure what you are meaning. However, wait untill I show you some pictures, for your responce, ok?
Hot Pants. The trick to welding on a wheel, is to not consintrate too much heat in one spot, and let it cool slowly. Like, right after pre-heat/weld/post-heat, cover the wheel with a piece of fiberglass, or bury the wheel in a pile of dry sand.
Don't need wheel weights for balancing a wheel. Where the balancing machine sez the wheel needs a certain oz of weight, put a 1/2" long bead of weld right in the center of the rim. Get too much weld, grind some off.

Oh Another Smart Ass. Jessica got me in deep this time. . . . .

What I meant was get some 15" beauty rings and attach the 14" wheel covers to them. Problem is finding a beauty ring that will hold it. But then again you could bolt them to the dust cap on the fronts. LOL DUCT TAPE!!! There you go!

I have given this A LOT of thought, as I have correct 58 DeSoto spinners (only available as a 14", and I refuse to run them tiny 14" tires (short) on any FL car! There are a number of wheel shops that will build wheels to spec. Common muscle car trick. You want a stock center with a wider bead? No sweat! I was thinking of taking a stock 14" and having them figure out how to graft it as a 15, AND take the stock wheel cover. You would end up with more wheel showing at the bead. ... no choices there! I am pretty sure this would be a drop in the hat for guys who do this kinda thing all day long. That was my best idea so far.

You dont think that putting the mounting brackets on the back of the 14" wheel from a 15" would work? It sounds pretty easy...

i just dont understand why going w/ a 225/70/14 is such a problem (or whatever size it is that you're looking for) ... its only 10 millimeters difference in height from a 75 series which nobody makes.

OK, here are the pictures I was talking about.
Brent, Stockton Wheel can do what you suggested. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutttttttttttttttttttttttttttt,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,. The cost is more than a set of $700. WW's!
Not an economical way to go.
Fasten a 14" hubcap to a 15" beauty ring. Neat idea, but, all of those several hunderd differnt size beauty rings that I've picked up along the side of the road, (stainless scrap $) I wouldn't want to take the chance of loosing a more valuable FwdLk hub cap!
F**d has made an adapter/ (?) beauty ring, for a 16.5 wheel.
See pictures.
There are two differnt sizes.
One for the 16.5, 6 1/2" wide wheel, H-D 3/4, and 1 ton SRW, wheel models. And the regular duty 3/4 ton 16.5, 6" wheel. The NOS one in the wrapper is for the 6" wheel. The set on my truck are the wider wheels. That is a 15" '71 Ply hub cap.
I have only seen ONE other 3/4 F**d pick up with those adapters running, like me, as beatuy rings.
A whole lot of late '70's early '80's ambulances had those adapters with 15" LTD hubcaps.
Too bad no one makes those kinds of adapters for 15" wheels. (?)

Hey Rick

That's what I was talking about, and I agree with loosing the FL wheel cover. I eluded to that when I commented about finding one that will hold. What you just showed me was kinda what I was talking about. Back in the early 60's, Chrysler used to have a ambulance (Meat wagon) hearse conversion that had 15" wheels and used the same concept as the Dorf adaptor. When you come up with a solution. let us know.

In don't remember seeing an MoPar ambulance/hearse with a 15" wheel to a 14" hubcap adapter. (?)
ALL of the Mopar PC's I've seen has the wider 6 1/2" 14" 300 wheels.
You say you have acutally seen, a set of these 15 to 14 adapters?

Yes I did and I think that sucker is still sitting in the old garage too. I'll have to go up to the dealership where I worked many moons ago and see if the ol' man left it there. I do know that the shop it is stored in was the original shop from the 40's. Parts of the roof have caved in but no where near where he had all these odd balls. I was fascinated because it was a 62 Chrysler SW and the rims and wheels were stacked in front of it. I remember him telling me it used the same rim as the pickups which were 15" X 6 As I recall it had L78-15 on the tires when I looked. But Rick, that was almost 20 years ago. It had the original 62 Chrysler wheel covers there too, which were definitely 14". I never put the pieces together. I'll see if I can scoot up there for you next weekend. But if I do that, you have to come here and rebuild my 727! LOL Bring a clear jug. The old man has been dead for about 5 years. There is a whole parts room there just loaded with goodies too. But alas, Dodges, no Chrysler or Plymouth stuff

Yeah. That's what I had in mind to do in the first place. But I can't figure out what to do with moving the valve stem,,,,,,,?
Mike, your picutes don't show up very clearly. (My 'puter ?)
Is there any way you can send me more detailed pictuers, please?
I don't need pitures of the wooden jig, just good clear pictures of every thing else, especially what you did to move the valve stem hole to the 14" posisition.
What did you use to cut the 'donor' 14" lip? A cut-off wheel in a buzzer, or a cut-off tool on a lathe?

Hello sir. Happy Monday. (blech!)
The fella who did the work -- and the website is Dan Reitz. You can get his contact info by clicking that link at the bottom of the page that pops-up with the wheel pictures. It'll take you to his homepage thingie. His car is neat -- he even did a home made disc brake conversion. If you can't get to him, I'll post an APB for him on the other listserver. Oh Rick Ricky! Ricky-Pooh Hey Squeezins!

I went up to Boonton to the old building only to find a concrete slab. I went to the new building and inquired as to where the cars went. They have been moved to Delaware to one of the families garages for storage until they figure out what to do with all the cars. The 62 Ambulance went with everything. They tell me that all the cars were stored with drained gas tanks and fresh oil. That part of the building was heated until it was torn down. (The borough made them do it) The old mans (Tommy) son, Cory said that He would see if he can get the rings for me, but said he wanted to sell the rig as a whole. He asked me fo $8K for the ambulance (Rig). He said they went over every car and discovered that there was not an ounce of rust an anything that was in there. Just dust and dirt. Sooooooo I have to wait to see if Cory will part with the rings. He also identified the rings as still being there. I had the time to go up there because as we got into the trans, we found a bad planetary so everything stopped right there.

Interesting. Cory said they put a few gallons of fresh gas in, Antifreeze, threw on the tires and drove everything onto the trailer. This would be the find of the century if I could get it. Included in the inventory was a 58 D500 Conv, several power wagons, The New Yorker ambulance, and a 55 Dodge conv. The Chrysler was ordered special for a ambulance squad, but was never delivered it. He tells me it has 56 miles on it. But he's a car salesman. We all know about car salespeople.

I just called Cory after ypur last post. He said he's going down there to take inventory in a couple of weeks. He said he would have to decide what to do. He knows Tommy (The Old Man RIP) and I were pretty close. Imagine an Italian and an American Indian as friends? Ho Brother. I'll do the best I can for you. But I caution you, If I decide to buy the 62, I aint gonna' want to part with them if they are what we think they are. There is a remote possibility they were after market. As I understand it, Chrysler built 86 New Yorker Ambulances. Getting one with 56 Miles on it would be a dream of all proportions. Imagine the funky things you could do in the back of that thing? Let's not go there.

I know this rig. I work for the same dealer 62 used to work for. Man was a damned ledgend there for quite a while. I remember seeing the rings Steve is talking about. They were after market rings. You could just tell by the plating on them, they were not stainless.

He is wrong on the 56 miles, it is 156 miles. I used to go back to the old shop and sit in it. Leather seats, air conditioning, power everything. It's tied up in the estate, but you can bet Steve is on the phone with the nephews every week to get it

Wish one of you could go in there and get a name off those things, or get one so I can look at it, to see if I can make 4,,,,,,,,. Oh well. Win the lottery, then I can go buy a ready made set of wide whites. Won't have to fool around with a bunch of adapters then.
