Odd car...

Location: Lemoore CA | I'm surprised at how well the lines flow on the car with no modification, I read somewhere that all Chrysler makes of a specific year share a common cowl, firewall, and a common front door edge, but I didn't know it crossed years as well. Anyone ever see that 57or8 Plymouth two door hardtop with the 59 Dodge front end on it? Almost the perfect car to me. |

If memory serves, the Swedish winter pretty much locks them Swedes into the dark recesses of their garages from early September to the end of August, causing many to go crazy and spend horrific money and hours to import hard-to-find foreign cars and restore or customize them. Apparently, this particular individual missed that one week of nice "show weather" and went completely off the deep end, fabricating up a stock bezel / surround to house "300" letters against a red, white, and blue striped field in some attempt to make it look "like Chrysler *might* have done it".
I sure am glad we don't have winters quite so long as Sweden, but it sure gives a guy a lot of time to avoid shoveling snow, doesn't it ? |

Location: tailFinland | I also saw this car at the Power Meet last thursday and my first reacton was " whadda hell" somebody has ruined a 300 D. Then I thought that it was actually a custom, built out of parts that were best available and easy to bolt on. Anyway nice workmanship. |

Certainly can't argue with te craftmanship.
Did he happen to give you any idea of what the car was originally? |

The roof is a 58 NY'er / 300 or Fireflite / Adventurer.
Given that most restoration guys are not up for the rather involved task of swapping roofs, I'd suggest the base body was one of the above. From there, we can see it got a 59 Dodge front clip - which, incidentally, would not bolt up to a stock frame from the base body, so either the nose was lengthened, or the frame shortened. From there .... ? |

Location: Vancouver, BC | The 1957-59 Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler all shared the same cowl and the basic door stampings. The Plymouth doors received a different hole for the handles compared to the other makes, while the 126" wheelbase DeSoto and Chrysler models had bolt-on upper window surrounds on the sedans and wagons. (The rear doors were unique to Plymouth due to the 4" shorter body.)
Remember, Dodge front clips were attached to Plymouths The only trick to this one, as mentioned, is the fact the Dodge front fenders had to have been modified - if this car really has the Chrysler 300's 126" wheelbase.
If the car is based on the 122" wheelbase, the Dodge fenders would fit. It is in the front clip that Chrysler extended the 122" wheelbase cars to 126". In turn the 122" wheelbase models were extended from the 118" Plymouth body in the rear floor area. Thus the sedans come in 118", 122" and 126" wheelbase sizes, but the wagons only in 122" and 126".
In this case, it would be possible to take a 1958 Chrysler 126" wheelbase 2-door hardtop, put it on to a 122" wheelbase chassis, install 1957 taillights and a 1959 Dodge front clip. Someone with cash to burn and a strange taste in auto design could pull it off.
Looks like the work of Paul Garlick. He was the one that had a 1961 Dodge Polara with a 1961 Plymouth front clip and interior door panels, one of three built in Canada for Mexico at the Hamtramck plant. (He overlooked the fact that the Polara was not built in Canada in 1961 and that Chrysler has build records for cars built in the U.S. in 1961.)

The engine is a B or RB block. Thus it cannot be a 1958 D engine which used the 392 hemi.
Taking a close look the front fenders from the wheel opening to the front door, this car is on the 122" wheelbase. Thus the front fenders from a Dodge (or Plymouth) would fit, but not the 300's.
