Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Here is some tips on how to make pre-sewn carpets fit just a little nicer.
The bags contains slightly wet sand and the carpet is spray-glued to the felt, left overnight for to set good.
As you can see it was real crappy in the before photo
I hope that someone will get some help from this.

Location: Sioux Center, IA | What a good idea! Dumb question, but how thick is the felt: mine is so crumbled I can't tell. Can I get what I need at a carpet store? Or is there a better source (I've got the carpet, courtesy of Gary Goers).

You could use a felt for upholstery, width about a yard and 0,400 something in thickness.
Try your local upholstery shop (also for furniture's) they should have it.

Location: Rochester Hills, MI | Sven, this is great! I will be doing the exact same thing this winter (hopefully) on my 60 New Yorker. My carpet is good but it is the cut pile carpeting which I think is supposed to be loop pile as shown in your pictures. By the way, you can ignore my question about carpet type in your posting under Members Rides.

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Did you see that I managed to save the original foot plate rubber TailFinGary! Try to separate yours (if nice) with a carpet knife cutting only the carpet/glue side. After that you have cleaned the back from glue residue, you can cut small holes and sew it onto the new carpet. The plastic crap that was supplied together with my carpet, I will save and show as an exemplary of bad quality and taste. |
