| Yes she did come from Sydney, but now registered in Melbourne, Roadworthy was a task alone....
Registration indicates she was an ex police car.
Unfortunately allot of bog in the panels, fairly ordinary interior.
So far have spent a fortune on ebay for bits and pieces, got myself a set of swivel seats, full working order, and a new 318poly
Next series of pics will be the strip down and build process
Hope you enjoy

They used a pick axe to knock the signs of rust back into the car and bogged it all up, one of these days I shall meet someone bogging a car and his remains shall forever be lost! |

I realy do not envy the work you have ahead of you, but it looks like it was at least driveable. Good luck........ |

Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | That rust along the roof rail..... very strange place to rust !! Usually the headlight pots are rusted out on these Dodges. - from experience..... I owned one ( A Polara) back in 1974 through 1995 , the car was very solid - good floors, rockers, trunk, quarters, but the front fenders were completely gone around the headlights - I took it in to get the headlights aligned and they took the chrome bezels off and there was nothing in behind, just swiss cheese holding things together. Some quick patching on the tops and sides of the fenders had been done before I got the car..... you know what they say .... let the buyer beware, however I got rust free fenders eventually for the car and kept it for 21 years. See it here, http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/viwpc/rides.html now it belongs to a good friend of mine. |

Location: Parts Unknown | That roof drip edge rust is very typical of cars used around the ocean .... the salt comes to them from the mist off the water and lodges high. Kind of a tough place to get at to work too. Neat car. |

| I havent got the full history of the car, but from my understanding it spent 12 months out in air with no protection, that front fender is a task alone I tell you.
Got my disc brakes today, side mirrors and a couple other goodies off ebay, thats the most expenisce shopping spree I have been on for a long time, rekon I have blown at least 5K on bits and peices.

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Hmm, the tire size is a difficult thing - only the original size got the right look and fills up the fender wells correctly. To many cars I see has too small tires and that makes the car looks "out of scale". I will wear out my tires (the sooner the better) and get myself a set of original size whitewalls. Those modern wheels is not my cup of tea - but I guess the beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. The body work seems to go along well with a good progress - keep us posted |

| Wheels have always been a final personal touch for me, no matter what car I have owned over time, everyone of them has had the original wheels removed and replaced with something else.
The tyre size is 255/55
I had a look for some originals but could not make myself do it, even the 65 Thunderbird I am about to start on has a new set lined up
I got the kit from PentaStar Parts and Restorations in NSW

Location: bishop, ca | Gary, do you still need to locate a front fender?
Looking at your paint cross-sections, it looks like your car may have been (re-)painted four times, to date?
FWIW, when I bought my car, in 1980, I discovered nasty surprises, similar to those seen on your car, under the pretty-new
paintwork, but, fortunately, only along the lower edges of the car.
Back then, patch-panels were not available, so my shop had to custom-fabricate the new bodywork out of sheet steel.

| I have managed to find 2 panels in the states in which they are cutting them down to make a patch panel and one from the old owner who also has cut it down and is sending it to me
Its a pity that there are just no patch panels for these fenders anywhere. |

and their sites will come up.
Coincidentally, they are both physically very close to each other, in Phoenix area, and, they both cater
to email/phone orders.
But they ain't cheap.

| You can see the new create motor arrived during the week above, going to spend some time getting that going and see what option I have with CAMS, which reminds me if anyone out there has any recommendations now is the time.
The car has been re wired and the trimmer is working his magic, should be around 6 weeks now and everything will be back in.
I am bound to find several bits and pieces, inclusive of several bolts left over... arrghh

The two big 'recycling-yards', in AZ: Hidden Valley & Desert Valley, have a lot of available rust-free sheetmetal, and
they ship all over the world.
I've dealt with Desert Valley and have been happy. As for Hidden Valley, they once quoted me nearly $300 for a '57-'59 flat head six air cleaner. I have never called them since.
That was worse than the time Texas Acres quoted me $300 for a '58-'60 Chevrolet manual tranny.

Coming along nicely.

That roof drip edge rust is very typical of cars used around the ocean .... the salt comes to them from the mist off the water and lodges high. Kind of a tough place to get at to work too.
Yes, how true. I know of a two door '57 Plymouth wagon from Southern California. The floors are solid, but the roof drip edges were ready to fall off.
I've seen several '57-'58 wagons which were generally solid except for the roof drip edges.
I figured they were either from coastal areas or spent a lot of time parked near industrial complexes.
I have pictures I should post to prove the latter point. A friend of mine purchased a 1989 or '90 Chevrolet short bed pickup from Nevada Power Company. The truck was retired by the utility after spending ten years at the coal fired Reid Gardner Power Plant. The truck was exposed to sulphur and other pollutants which were captured by plant emissions equipment. The doors, fenders and cab were eaten through worse than some older ones I've seen in areas where road salt is used. It was hard to believe the truck spent its entire working life just thirty six miles north of Las Vegas!

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | Wow Gary! I'm happy for the progress that you're making, the roof seems to be perfectly well repaired along with the rest of the rot. You must have removed a lot of bondo on the car - now it seems that you only have used necessary amount. I'm also happy with the way you're documenting the work, like step for step - this will help new FL'rs to get a grip and get started.
Keep up the good work |

Location: bishop, ca | There is a "California" Dodge wagon, shown on the 'Craigs List' board, now, that shows the exact-same roof-level
rust-out---I think because the factory only DIPPED the cars in rust-coating, but didn't submerge them, to get that protection
be put onto the rear-roofs of the wagons....check it out, over there. |

On that board, go down to, like, the 7th thread: $1,000 1959 Sierra Wagon (or sum-such title); that's it. |

I did see his other post about 2 years later that he was selling it.
It looks like he had to fix almost exactly the same stuff I have so far.
I thought it was funny that it almost looks like his car and mine must have had the same panel beater as the crappy repairs looked almost identical.
