Location: Belford, NJ | I swapped a '61 413 which has an alternator into my '60 Belvedere, which used a generator. What are some of the things I have to take into account when using the alternator from the '61? |

Location: Blythewood, SC | I'd use the 61 regulator. Other than that, it's all making the mounting brackets work. |

Location: Belford, NJ | I'll have to hunt down a regulator from a '61 then. You'll have to forgive me... electrics are NOT my specialty. Thanks! |

Any '60-'69 regulator will work.
Use the electromechanical diagram below to change the wiring.

Location: Twin Falls, Idaho | If you use a single wire GM alternator, you can eliminate the regulator.

Location: Belford, NJ | So I can use a single wire GM alternator as long as I can get it mounted correctly? That might be the way to go... I think I might have one in my father's basement. |

Location: Florida | Normally, a single-wire alternator is an aftermarket offering as a complete unit.
They were not installed from the factory, but made expressly for easy installation in hot rods and cars with difficult-to-trace charging problems.
The regulator is built into the alternator. I recall seeing 'em in the JC Whitney catalog some time ago. |

Location: Netherlands | I just did a generator-to-OneWire alternator swap on my '60 Chrysler.
The alt has a couple of extra wires on the back but it only needs 1 thick wire connected to the positive batterypost to work.
Just a glimpse of the alternator here:

An alternate opinion on the one-wire alternator:

Location: Netherlands | Mopar-style, but not made by Mopar.
I can look up the brand/ of it if you want. I got 1 other still in the box.
