Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | As some of you may know, we left on August 7th for a 10 day trip through Washington and Oregon, culminating at the WPC Club Regional Meet in McMinville, Oregon, August 14-16th. We left home on the 7th after spending a few days readying the 60 Saratoga for the trip. On the evening of the 5th I re-charged the A/C unit with 3 cans of a product called Freeze-12 that I bought on Ebay. The A/C was dead prior to that. As of tonight, August 25th its still blowing cold. This trip included my wife and I and our two youngest sons, Jordan 12, and Brandon, 10 all in the Saratoga. We left Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island on the Coho Ferry to Port Angeles, WA on the morning of the 7th, drove down the beautiful Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, and stayed 2 nights at Great Wolf Lodge and Resort which has a huge indoor water park. This was for the boys of course!! We left there on Saturday the 9th and headed over to Newport, Oregon on the coast. It was a little cloudy and dull when we arrived there, but the next day, Sunday afternoon was sunny and warm and we spent the afternoon sitting on the beach. We spent 2 more days there but the weather was cool and cloudy the rest of the time. On Wednesday the 13th we left the coast for the WPC Meet in McMinville, Oregon, south west of Portland. This Chrysler Meet was hosted by the Pacific Wonderland Region of the WPC ( Walter P Chrysler ) Club. They put on a fantasitic 3 day event . We were welcomed with an ice cream social on Thu evening, and had a great tour to Powerland on Friday morning, which is host to antique trucks, farm equipment, and more. Saturday the car show was held at the Northwest Aviation Museum, home to the Spruce Goose. I have to say that on Thursday, Friday and SAT. the temp was over 100 F. boy was it hot, but no humidity so it was bearable. I am very glad that the MARK-IV Air Conditioner held out on the Saratoga during that heat. The show was great, there were lots of FL cars present as well. Saturday evening culminated in a banquet at the local Legion Hall. Lots of fun, I;ve gotta say. These WPC Events are always a lot of fun. I've been a member of the WPC now for 30 years. SO here are some pictures of our trip, the cars and the Show. Sadly, the photo of a burnt up 1978 New Yorker is a car of members which caught fire on Thursday afternoon. It's basically a write off. They had an electric fuel pump installed a year ago, but the pump was installed up near the engine instead of back near the tank. In the hot weather it dried up - vapour locked - over heated and caught fire, setting the engine compt. on fire which went thru the fire wall and burnt up the dash board inside the car. There are several pics of a short ferry ride - THIS is NOT the ferry from Vancouver Island to Port Angeles, WA. This was a one minute ferry ride over a river in Oregon on the day our our Powerland Tour. The ferry held about 9 big cars, and took 1 or 2 minutes to cross the river. Total sum of $2.00 for a car load to cross. There are a few photos of a beautiful '61 Newport Wagon. It belongs to Jon Carson, of Fenders and Fins Restoration Shop in the Seattle area. The red 1956 Chrysler 300-B belongs to Lisa Peterson, ( Jeff Carter's lovely wife ) of JC Auto Restoration, also in the Seattle area.

The generator keeps the charging under full control, you're a little low on gas and you seem to have exactly the same problem as I have with the temp gauge - showing low temperature at normal running temperature instead of approximately mid on scale. At that speed she's wonderful to drive and she keeps on begging for more (at least mine does)

At that speed she's wonderful to drive and she keeps on begging for more (at least mine does ) :inlove: The oil gauge in the car, in this picture is a spare I have installed while JC Auto rebuilds the original gauge, which is dead. The oil gauge contains a voltage limiter which controls the reading on the oil gauge, the temp gauge and the gas gauge, and the limiter is not working to capacity on this one. That's why the 3 gauges are reading low in the picture. This particular oil gauge, is from a 1962 ( along with the fuel gauge ) and the calibration lines on them are different from the 1960 gauges, although they are all interchangeable. The amp gauge settles down to dead center once the car has been running for a while at a good speed, but if you are tooling around a low speeds with the A/C working then it stays on the discharge side. I put on a new Voltage regulator which helped, but I want to put on an alternator especially with the A/C. I had the car up to about 85 MPH on the trip - haven't had it faster than that yet. It runs solid, no appreciable vibrations or shakes. I would prefer larger tires, they are only P-215-75R-14 and would be better suited to P-235 -75R-14 . Of course I would love a set of the KH Repro wire wheels.

Is that 61 IMP convertible Dick Hamann's former car/ Last saw his car in 1987, in Burbank National Meet.
You failed to mention the previous ownership of a certain 1960 Dodge, there.
Were there two 56 Fireflite convertibles there?
Really like your sunset-parking shot!
WPC meets really bring together a diverse group of cars and owners.
I Miss our trip to Tulsa; there's nothing like spending at least an over-nite, enroute to some destination, in our cars.

Interestingly, I have quite a few photos of 58 models wearing the ribbed bumper inserts as per 57 models, they should be plain inserts. The 61 Imperial is definitely not the Hamman car, this one needs restored - unless its the same one and has been abused over the years - the interior is a little rough. There was only the one Fireflite Pace car there, he has removable decals. Belongs to Larry Zappone of Seattle. He also has an Adventurer hardtop to match it. Yeah, the 60 Polar is my ex. And Neil, if you are wondering what I look like after 21 years, since we haven't seen each other since 1987, I'm the guy on the right side of the photo #79, with the COOL sunglasses,  on the boat ride. Jon Carson of Fenders and Fins is on the left. He's the guy I put in my EBAY song. All in good fun. So what I'm trying to say here, is that I still have a mop on top after all these years, albeit a little bit grey (gray) . LOL.

That blue Nash, by the way, is a 1957 Ambassador Super. The lollipop taillamps were used on 1956-57 models while the elongated Z trim was on 1957 models as were the full front wheel openings.

Hi Bill, I thought I might have been wrong on the year of the Nash. I spoke with the owner for a while, and commented on the huge back up lights, and he explained that they are NOT back up lights, never were, and never meant to be, there is no provision for bulbs in them. Those clear lenses are apparently just for decoration. I guess a clever person could make them into back up lights. He called them " butter dish covers "  Next year there won't be a Regional Meet, as the WPC National is close - in Sacramento CA, and the regulars will be all heading there to enjoy the talk and tire kicking etc. | |
