I thought it might be a good idea to make an inventory on ForwardLook cars in movies. To kick it off, I placed all the forward look footage of the movie ‘The Lineup’ on YouTube. It features a 1957 Dodge Coronet D500, a 1957 Dodge Custom Royal and a 1947 Plymouth (don’t know the model for sure). Because it’s rather much (large), I’ve placed three versions:
Dodge only:
Plymouth only:
and both together:
Funny to see they’re like keep changing cars during a trip or chase! One shot they’re in a Coronet D500, the next shot, in the same scene, they’re in a Custom Royal. The Custom Royal doesn’t seem to have the correct quarter panel side center moldings, they should be wider. But what’s correct? I wouldn’t know why the car is like that, but it’s not very plausible they did that for the movie. I would say it came like that. So, I guess the next Custom Royal without the wide moldings on eBay could be real…
So, if you know of any movie featuring ForwardLook cars, let me know, and I’ll see whether I can get a copy and get the ForwardLook footage on YouTube. I already have a copy of ‘Gypsy Moths’ at Neil’s, which I’ll pick up when I’ll visit the US and Neil again, shortly.

The movie "California Kid" (got a bad headache, neck, shoulder & foot been bothering me for a while so I'm not remembering so well right now) wasn't the police car driven by Vic Morrow a Forward Look? Been too long since I've seen it to remember the year car, but it did have fins.

I've long suspected that fifties/sixties film makers contracted with certain auto makers to supply new models for their films. A win/win deal, the film makers get free cars and the car makers get their cars seen.

Yep - James Stewart drives a solid white 1956 DeSoto Firedome 2 door hardtop in it.

1) "Take Her She's Mine" 1963, Jimmy Stewart goes to Paris to track down his daughter (Sandra Dee?) and there is a 57 or 58 Dodge.
2) "The Gazebo" 1959, Glen Ford and Debbie Reynolds, Carl Reiner is the neighbor and drives a beautiful Imperial convertible.
3) The last 2 or 3 seasons of "Superman" (TV series) were shot in color and featured 57/58 Dodges and Plymouths.
4) "Cape Fear" (1961 version) Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum and a bunch of '61 Chryslers
5) "The Misfits" 1961, Marylin Monroe (saved the best one for last...) and Clark Gable, one or more '61 Chryslers.

There was a movie a few years ago "Big Fish" that had a 57 Plymouth in it for a little while. Then there was the first scene in "Cat's eye" where that red Plymouth showed up that was in that other movie about a red Plymouth.............What was the name of that..............?

You guys should check the " www.imcdb.org" . yes, Internet Movie Cars Data Base. pretty good site, and you can add to it. Not sure if it was mentioned above (I may have missed it) but that movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's" has I think a 57 plaza at the end. It's a taxi cab...

This message could be its own little thread, because there's not a whole lot of FWDLK'ers in it (did see a baby blue
61 Belvie convertible, with black top, in one quick shot), but, last nite Turner Classic Movies showed "The Model
Shop", from 1969, with Gary Lockwood, and Anouk Aimee [from A man & Woman fame] starring in it.
What makes it so special [certainly, not the self-conscious acting/dialog, which makes "Gone in 60 Seconds" seem like Hamlet] ,
is that the French director used one principal-camara, in Cinema Verite fashion, to record and document the REAL L.A. Hollywood-area, in 1969, complete with MANY scenes containing real-world views of cars and buildings [not like the set-pieces, in "Bullett", and "Gone", etcetcetc, where the car merely drives up to a place, and parks in front of it, or where the 'action' is tightly controlled and choreographed] , as seen by Lockwood, as he drives around the area in his MGTD (which gets reposessed, at the end of the flick), with the camara mounted to the car, as he drives around town.
The movie is a real time capsule, not unlike "The Lineup", but, instead of high speed pursuits, the viewer can sit back and
enjoy the views of the area, and, there are no gratuitous 'freeway' scenes.
Lockwood is an unemployed architect, who lives in a dumpy-rental house, next to an oil rig, who learns from his wealthy
mutually-estranged parents that he just received his Draft Notice (remember THEM??) and that he has to report for
induction 'next week'.
Pretty-good Hippy-scenes, which are, also, not played over-the-top, like Peter Fondas movies, were.
One surprising thing, in all the many car-scenes, is that VERY few VW's or other furrin cars are seen, in the city.
There's an overwhelming amount of domestic cars on the streets, in 1969 L.A. , and the director definitely wanted "the car" to be a featured character in this clearly "L.A." movie.
If you can find a copy of this flick, it's well worth watching (with the sound turned-down). Speaking of sound,
I just realized that there is no background music played in this movie, but, there is some lame generic music
that Lockwood brings up, on the car's radio.
I should say that there IS actual (KRLA, mostly) L.A. disc jockey dialog and news-accounts played on the radio, however, regarding the staus of the ongoing Vietnam War peace negotiations, which IS of some real
interest, to Lockwood, and other contemporary film viewers.
At the end of the movie, TCM's host, Robert Osborne , came 'on' to state that originally Harrison F-rd was supposed to get the lead role, but, then, he was not well known as a leading man; Lockwood had just starred in "2001", so, he
was considered to be a 'hot' actor, who definitely plays-down his role, here, not unlike the way that Steve McQueen
would have played it.
This is a car-spotter's DREAM movie, and a nice piece, for fans of the 60's "commercial-strip" architecture.
The "Carolina Pines" Googie restaurant is seen in several scenes.
This ends my movie review. Get/see (but don't listen, much, to) this flick!

Denis, from what show are your screne images, above?
"The Model Shop" MIGHT be available in France/Europe, as its director was French, and this was his only Amerian
flick.
If so, even in French, or with subtitles, it's the car-watching that is important, not the dialog.
BTW, that beach-town-looking surface street was used in several shots, including the one where I saw that 61 PLY convertible,
seemingly parked in just about the same place as your 60 4-dr hardtop---lololol...

This clip is hilarious, and painful.
It begins as a chase between a Cortina? and a 57 Plymouth, but as they get further into demolishing the cars, the Plymouth turns into a 1960 Dodge, with big fake-looking tailfins pasted on! Fun to watch them switch back and forth bewteen the Plymouth and Dodge, but sad to watch them wreck both.

Roger, I recall seeing the film clip that you're referencing, but, is 'this' 60 PLY (with the Ram Air hood scoop on it)
a part of your film-reference?
I thought that your-film was shot in BxW; I can't believe that the custom-yellow car appeared in the "Crime Story"
TV show, but, was waiting for someone else to comment on its appearance, somewhere.
OOPS; you posted right before I did (OK; "Master Touch" is in 'color' !)
So, is this old-yeller a feature car in the late 50's "Crime Story" show?

I agree completely, and, have done exactly just that. I do what I can to contribute my car info for correcting improperly named cars and have spent many a lunch hours doing so. What I also find fascinating on this site is how it's not just a USA only site- it's open to cars and vehicles from all over the world. A real eye opener to what's out there, regardless of personal preferences in cars.

I cant believe that screamin' yellow zonker is from Crime Story. It has been over twenty years, but I didnt miss a single episode. They would have never used something with a dopey hood scoop like that.
Another thing; the first season was set in Chicago, the second was in Vegas. So there could have been vehicles with California plates, but not BLUE plates as pictured. They didnt start using those until '71 and the detail folks for Crime Story were pretty darn good.

It's a Ghia limousine, but, this snippet is titled "Foley Project" , a foley-artist is a sound engineer who, inside a studio, creates 'fake' noises, like the telephone, and those push-button sounds and the rattling bottles, and the train noises, etc, which appear in this film clip.
The poster of this clip very cleverly omitted the 'noise' of the actors, so you only hear the background/incidental, and artificially created sounds, which create the drama in these scenes.

I saw "The Gazebo" at a drive-in movie theatre 45 years ago. I remember the plot but I don't remember the cars that may have been in it. I have never seen it on TV since. It was a mildly amusing comedy about an advertising executive who thinks he's killed a blackmailer and buries the body in the foundation of a gazebo he's building in his back yard.
"Monster On The Campus" (1958) is a horror picture like so many others of that era. It does however have a few FL cars in it. The story concerns a mild-mannered anthropology professor at a small university who is transformed into a slobbering cave man by being bitten on the hand by a coelocanth fish. His girlfriend drives a 1958 DeSoto Fireflite and his gal Friday drives a 1958 Plymouth convertible. Even the cops drive a 1958 Plymouth Plaza.

Not movies but TV shows, "Leave it to Beaver" used Plymouth's after the first season(Ford's in 1957). In the opening credits there is a car driving by (58 Chrysler?). Another show "Batchelor Father" uses an Imperial conv.

If you don't blink, you'll see my 57 Plymouth in "Waiting for the Light". I took my 55 Imperial to be used in the movie"Dogfight", but they used my 57 Ford truck instead. Geez, that's been a long time ago.
And for those my age and older, the old "Tammy" movies featured quite a few of the mid fifties FL cars.

James Bond Meets The Forward Look, Most Recent Edition: This is a chase scene from the 1974 Bond film, The Man With The Golden Gun. Our favorite spy is chasing the bad guy again, but he's not driving the '56 Plymouth in this picture. Intsead, Agent 007 is passing the Plymouth in that red AMC Hornet. The Plymouth is merely a background vehicle in this shot, and is supposed to be a taxi. It's also supposed to be a Plaza, but there's no trim or series name scripts on the car. U.S. cars mingle with vintage Asian cars in this shot, not suprising as this is Bangkok in '74. And although the Plymouth's driver is supposed to crash in the storyline, the producers substituted a '55 Shivvery in the actual crash sequence, thereby saving the FL Plymouth from any harm (breathe a sigh of relief here). This is the last encounter to date between James Bond and the Look, Forward Look. Most likely, the producers saw to that.

The officer approaching the '59 Coronet in this picture may have his back to you, but my, he sure looks familiar. Surprise, it's actually actor-turned-politician and future U. S. president Ronald Reagan in the very last role of his acting career before going into politics full-time, in the 1964 film The Killers. It's the only one of The Gipper's movies in which he played a bad guy (and reportedly hated it), and the Coronet is the only FL car that we see up close in the film. Reagan doesn't have any problems impersonating a cop in this scene, looks like he did it quite decently. Although FL vehicles are sparse in this film, seeing a future U. S. president play a criminal seems to make it fun to watch. Read my lips, no more stereotypes!

That website didn't show the 57 CRL convertible which was prominently featured in "The Gypsy Moths", or the eye-blink yellow/white 57 sedan which passes by outside the diner where Tim Roth firsts meets up with his undercover supervisor, in "Resevoir Dogs"
The yellow/black CRL convertible featured in Quantum Leap was sold out of a TX used car dealership, so, it still
exists.
The "She Monster" car shows a good(?) example of the careless dash panel painting, that MT complained about, in its 1/57 CRL D500 review...my car has a bit of that, too, where/when the glove box door was installed and slightly mis-aligned so that a lower corner of it scraped across the still fresh lower paintwork on the dash, and, the masking taping was a bit ragged, too.
Finally, one way-earlier photo-posting question is answered, identifying a race segment featuring a 57 Coro 2-dr HT (apparently-) about to pass a 57 Roadmonster: it is from the 2002 Cuban documentary: "Yank Tanks" .

Just for Adriana, here are some shots of 1961 Plymouths in an episode of the situation comedy "Leave It To Beaver". It looks like Mayfield (the town where the show was set) had an aggressive Chrysler-Plymouth dealer as all of the cars appear to be either Chryslers or Plymouths. There are a few Dodges too and one Imperial.

Couple of additions/corrections to "It's a MMMM World". . .
Berle's Imperial was white. (at least on my TVs!) Also some of the B&W and unmarked police cars were 62 Dodges and some were 62 Plymouths. Jerry Lewis (in a cameo appearance) swerves his 62 Chrysler convertible to run over Spencer Tracy's hat.
And don't forget the 2 59 Plymouth taxis in the climactic chase scenes along the PCH.

What vintage Asian cars?,I only see a red AMC, a yellow Ford Zodiac Mk 2,The Plymouth and a red Triumph 1300 and at the far left it looks like the rear fender of a 1966 Pontiac.

The red/white '61 Desoto that I am restoring had a small roll in the movie 'Mississippi Burning'. I have never seen it but a friend recently saw it again and was on the lookout for the car. The car is in the movie twice.

Wow, I remember that one scene from when I saw the movie in high school about 7 years ago. Here's some photos.

Hey folks!! A really excellent film with a ton of FL cars is the 1958, "Girls on the Loose". I own a copy of it, I found it online, kind of expense but well worth it!! It's a classic 50's movie with woman attacking eachother with knifes, and chasing eachother in FL cars.

I saw that when it first came out. That's one of the few things I remember about the film !

this looks like it may be from a movie
Gomer Pyle.....not a good ending in that episode.
I see what you mean Matt,it was also used in a 1968 episode of Mod Squad
I haven't seen this in years, but I mistakenly remembered the car as being a '59. I did notice, however, that the car, being driven appears to have "straight out" tail pipes. The underside shown when the car caught fire seemed to have the stock curve at the end of a visible tail pipe. But I am probably ,mistaken about that, too.

I get a kick out of this: Every two or three months there is a new "FL Cars in Movies" thread!
I thought this subject had been covered before too!
If I recall correctly the old post had videos and scenes of the lineup as well.
We should just keep adding to the first thread on Forward Looks in movies so it will grow with more info like the forward looks in old postcards thread does.
Don't forget all the Forward Looks in the Jerry Lewis films like "Hollywood or bust" and "visit to a small planet"..there's a flying Plymouth in that one.

Not movies but TV shows, "Leave it to Beaver" used Plymouth's after the first season(Ford's in 1957). In the opening credits there is a car driving by (58 Chrysler?). Another show "Batchelor Father" uses an Imperial conv.
I'm pretty sure "Leave it to Beaver" wasn't sponsored by Chrysler until 1959,that's the first season Ward drove a Plymouth, prior to that they were all Fords.
There is one episode where Beaver is playing in Wards 1961 Plymouth four door and it rolls into the street,if you look closely at the interior shots where Beaver and his friend are inside the car you can tell it's one of the Fords and the shoved boards into the Plymouth to make it less noticeable when it rolled into the street as the ford was a post model (sedan)

Correction I think its a DeSoto in the opening for "Beaver"
Correct,the car is a 1959 DeSoto,but it's in the closing credits.
"Leave it to Beaver" was sponsored by Ford for 1957-1958.

58 DESOTOS RULE - 2010-01-05 12:30 PM
Just for Adriana, here are some shots of 1961 Plymouths in an episode of the situation comedy "Leave It To Beaver". It looks like Mayfield (the town where the show was set) had an aggressive Chrysler-Plymouth dealer as all of the cars appear to be either Chryslers or Plymouths. There are a few Dodges too and one Imperial.
These shots are from the episode "Beaver takes a drive" that I was talking about.
The prop dept used a Ford rigged with a Plymouth steering wheel for the shots where Beaver was inside pretending to drive the car, then when the car rolled into the street they showed the 1961 Plymouth again, but since it was a four door hardtop they shoved pieces of wood in between the doors to make it appear the car has pillars like a sedan.

It's probably in one of the other threads, but a '58 Imperial Crown convertible figures prominently in "High School Confidential." Great opening titles, with Jerry Lee Lewis performing on the back of a truck...

Another solid Ford show was 77 Sunset Strip...
I wonder what effect it might have had on buyers if they'd had Chrysler products for the boys there? And a genuine Hemi in the Kookie Byrnes hotrod, of course.

Andy Griffith was the same way a town of nothing but Fords!
There were a few early episodes though where you'd see other makes.
I've always wondered why more shows werent sponsored by Chrysler back then.

In "Animal House" there's a 57-8 Plymouth four door sedan in the front yard.
In the original "Hairspray", the family car is a 57-8 Plymouth four door sedan.
In "Tammy and the Bachelor" there are new 56 Plymouth, DeSoto and Chrysler convertibles. Also a Dodge four door sedan I think. The Chrysler is one shade of light pink, don't know what it's called. Anybody?

Most of the shows that used cars were not sponsored by auto manufacturers but if you watch the credits at the end you will see "Automobiles Furnished By XXXX". Chrysler furnished cars for Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres but did not sponsor either show. They sponsored the Bob Hope show but never supplied cars as the show was done on a stage. Same with Lincoln-Mercury and the Ed Sullivan Show. Perry Mason used Ford products but no Ford commercials. Perry's practise must have improved over the years as he drove Fords in the first couple of years and then Lincolns in the 1960's.

I'm sure it did, after all he never lost a case! I always like Paul Drakes T-Birds best.I can't remember if the ever showed what Della drove or not.
There are lots of Forward Looks in "The Twilight Zone" as well.If you watch the episode "Nick of Time" with William Shatner there is a 1958 Belvedere 2dr hardtop parked in plain view in the park scene.

In the 1972 movie 'The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds', Joanne Woodward toodles around town in a big ol' 4 door 59 Desoto- I don't remember the model. And one 'couldn't sleep' night I was watching some old bw Italian movie with subtitles when out of the blue the main characters drove away in a nice 56 convertible Desoto. I have no idea what the name of it was.

The movie Back Street from 1961 was on the air a couple of days ago, and there were many scenes with FL cars, and a couple of superb scenes with a dark green 1958 Chrysler New Yorker convertible, but I can't seen to find any footage of it online.

There was a 1960 Dodge Polara Convertible used in the cult monster movie Equinox. I extracted the good car clips from it and put them up on you tube. Anyone know this car? According to the commentary in the movie it was owned by a friend of the guys making the movie and the owner was a "car nut" and even at the time they made the movie they realized it was a rare car. Hopefully it's still around somewhere. At the very beginning of the clip they refer to it as a Desoto but it's obviously a Dodge.

Chitty Chitty option, I believe its fitted to most vehicles
Exceptionally rare to find one in good working order, an example of one that does appear to work correctly (in most cases) would
be the "Dukes of Hazard" vehicle that seems to fly at the drop of a hat
It has been found to suddenly become active unexpectedly when speed and un even surfaces are combined, generally resulting in a
vehicle thats no longer opperable.

About every time I see a movie on TCM from the late fifties to early sixties, there's always plenty of Forward Look MoPars and a various assortment of finned cars in the background. Neglected to see anything with a FL as the star, except that one red car... Shoot, already forgot it again!
Funny how MOST "car people" would neglect to give any credit to these style of cars; I wasn't born in those days, and never really was around MoPars in general, so me actually liking these finned beauties was my own personality showing. I always spend my spare time fixing something, or looking at evidence that these were cars on the road at one point in time.

Prior to the 57 and up models I don't recall seeing anything in the way of Mopars in movies except the Chrysler Corp taxi's in the movies of the 30's and 40's. The first "modern" mopar I can recall seeing was in Citizen Cane when Orson Wells drives up/off in a FL convertible. My favorite scene in the movie.

My mind is clouded by cars... Even though it's not a FL one of my other movie memories was some epic Liz Taylor type movie with Troy Donahue or similar actor in it in which he comes driving up to "the big house" in a 1960 Lincoln Continental Convertible. I just love the way those big convertible cars of the late 50's dominated a scene. When you arrived in a cloud of dust in one of them everyone knew you HAD ARRIVED!!!
Just googled to see what I could find and ran across this on AMAZON.....

Troy Donahue drove our Lincoln convertible in this motion picture. My father had just bought this car from the Lincoln show room window in Wethersfield, Conn. when the movie producers drove by and saw it. We were very pleased to know that they wanted Troy drive it in a movie. (and Claudette too) When we got it back, everyone took turns sitting in the drivers seat where Troy did. It is still an experience to see him drive it in this film even today. I was just 5 or 6 years old but I have a vivid recollection of this time period. When we drove this car with its top down, people would stop what they were doing. They would look as we drove by just because it was probably the most beautiful car of its time.
The movie was rich in music and color. The scenes are classic Conn. and its Tobacco industry. Mystic Seaport, Tara Mar Marina and Hotel where many movie stars docked their yachts for a few days. Many times we visited when Frank Sinatra docked, Marlon, Katherine Hepburn and countless others. Connecticut in the 60s was a nice era.
Thank you Troy Donahue and Director and Claudette for being such a happy part of our lives.
Hann family, Conn.

Yes it would. I never really was around finned cars a whole lot when I was young, I was born into the "new" generation- where all the of the kids my age still think a "Lamborghini" is cool. I can still remember clear as day, stopping to see a red 1959 Cadillac convertible when I was little; after that it all seemed to come together.
But then again, I still believe in vacuum tubes, records, white wall tires, and space age design. Each to his own.

Here they tended to be regarded as something of an excess... our cars were generally considerably smaller and the big fins were way more outlandish than the styling cues on the cars around them...
But they were here - though only in small numbers - and we had some Fords and Chevs as well. And we saw them on television, the outstanding show being Highway Patrol, and didn't The People's Choice (or was that 'Peeple's') have them too? And in Leave it to Beaver and a few other shows.
Last night I was up late and saw an episode of Naked City so I got my camera out:

The tv series Mr. Lucky starring John Vivyan & Ross Martin also had lots of Forward Looks. I have the whole series on DVD and will try and make some screen captures to add here.
I agree Chrysler was the only company to really push the styling envelope and embrace futurism and huge fins! Ford and Chevy were far more conservative,Ford always having the smallest fins. Ironically Ford's Fairlanes and Comets still wore small fins for 1963,long after Chrysler had moved away from them.
After seeing Chryslers Forward Look cars with their futuristic dashes, low sleek rooflines and huge upswept fins you have to wonder why anyone would have bought a Chevy or a Ford?

"Date With The Angels" starring Bill Williams and Betty White was sponsored by Plymouth for both seasons of its run (1957-1958). The opening credits had a cool animated sequence showing angels driving a cloud that morphed into a 1958 Plymouth, and the end credits showed the couple driving a real '58.
Edit- Just added some screen captures of the animated sequence.

Perry Mason had many shots of cars in it. Someone has even started to compile a list of the cars that appeared in it - the web site url is posted above. I thought it was interesting that Perry couldn't make up his mind whether he liked Cadillacs or Fords as he drives both in the episodes I've seen from the DVDs (Seasons 1 through 3) If I were a rich attorney I know what I'd want to drive and it wouldn't be made in Dearborn.

Just caught a bit of "Grease" (the movie) on TV, relaxing after getting my D500 started again. I caught the start of the race scene down in the concrete LA river channel. A 56 Dodge Custom Royal, white, black and red shows up to watch. I have the DVD so I will have to find those scenes and do a screen capture and post them up.

That is hilarious. I tried and tried to get a good screen shot of when the 56 Custom Royal and the three Pink Ladies arrive at the Drive-in in Grease, I think I end up with the almost same shot at I found on the internet. Chapter 13 1:18:56 for mine. Still looking for more.

A couple more:
56 Plymouth 2dr Hardtop on its way to the Frosty Palace burger/milkshake joint (with a 55 or 56 Chrysler Windsor (?) in the background) and the 56 Custom Royal in the Highschool Parking Lot

58 DESOTOS RULE - 2013-10-16 10:21 AM
Perry Mason had many shots of cars in it. Someone has even started to compile a list of the cars that appeared in it - the web site url is posted above. I thought it was interesting that Perry couldn't make up his mind whether he liked Cadillacs or Fords as he drives both in the episodes I've seen from the DVDs (Seasons 1 through 3) If I were a rich attorney I know what I'd want to drive and it wouldn't be made in Dearborn.
It wasn't a case whether he liked a Cadillac or a Ford, but who was supplying the cars, either General Motors or Ford. When GM supplied the cars, it was a Cadillac. When it was Ford, Perry drove a Ford for the 1957 to 1960 model years and then Lincoln 4 door convertibles. Guess Perry was making a lot more in 1961 than when the show started. His Ford for 1959 was the retractable steel roofed Skyliner convertible. Paul Drake got a Corvette with GM and a Thunderbird convertible, with swing away steering wheel. from Ford.
GM supplied the cars for the show's last year.
During 1961 one show (done in the fall) had Perry dropping by a movie studio. As he went to the office at the back of the lot, he passed by a brand new, white, 1962 Studebaker GT Hawk. The only Studebaker I can recall in a Perry Mason show, other than on a street scene. It had wide white wall tires as used in 1960, and not the narrower tires that became common in 1962. But a beautiful car none the less.

Hidden Figures is a good movie and it's full of Forward Looks...
There's a '59 Plymouth 2-door which features in the background of a lot of scenes, but it's my no means the only one. Set in 1961, though I'm sure there's a couple of 1962 cars have sneaked into the sets, it's ripe for the Forward Look cars. One that surprised me was, I'm pretty sure, a 1961 De Soto.
I recommend movie, both as an entertaining and interesting story and also as a chance to get a glimpse of these older cars.

Watched the movie last night with my wife. Just about shouted out when I saw the many Mopars. There are lots. A 1961 Chrysler 4dr hardtop plays a major role and has lots of screen time. Many others. I've captured two from the trailer.
(Movie was okay but not great, even at Pay for View prices)

From the movie "Hidden Figures"
This Plymouth is mostly parked in the NASA parking lot, but it was used a few times in another scenes, actually all the same cars are used in different parts of the movie.

An excellent movie, thanks for the recommend. The movie is set in 1961 and yes a '61 DeSoto appears in a couple scenes--MY old DeSoto!!
The flick was filmed in Atlanta, and the DeSoto was used as a police car (along with a '64 Ford--I know, I know, it's supposed to be 1961). The current owner of my old DeSoto has a fleet of old cars that he rents out to movie makers locally.
Needless to say, I was stoked to see old "Shadow" in the movies! With her original black and white paint, she is a likely candidate for a police car "clone".
By the way, I added the Chrysler dog-dish hubcaps--she originally had the full DeSoto wheelcovers.

I finally got some info from the son of the fellow I bought my car from (who had Alzheimer's by the time I bought my car from his wife). The son tells me that my car was used in several Vancouver BC-area shot films and TV productions including:
Max Glick,
Deliver Them From Evil,
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures (TV),
Steven Spielberg's "Taken",
Stephen King's "It" and
This Boys Life (with Robert DeNiro and Leonardo DeCaprio).
I have a Film Production window cards for Deliver them from Evil and the Sam Neil version of In Cold Blood (shot in Alberta) but I haven't found my car in either of those two. Now I get to try to find it in the other ones. Hope that NetFlix has some of them.
If any of you have those on DVD and have nothing to do over the holidays.....;)
So far I have found the shooting locations for "It" (1990 version) included my City (New Westminster) as well as Vancouver

I was able to find DVDs for "It" (2009) and "This boy's life" at a local library. Put them on hold. Can't get them until the 27th. So I will be looking for my car in them next week.
But I am not too hopeful. Didn't find anything in the Internet Movie Car Data base (IMCDb) for either:

Apparently this came after the Long Long Trailer. Released in Feb. 56, there was evidence that the vehicle was a 56 Sierra but on second look, based on the front badge and "V", it must have been a 55 Sierra (two-tone dark blue on light blue).
Some info (note the last image - the back cover of the Vol 21 No. 2 of Dodge News that featured the story about Lucy and Desi and the Dodge (wagon) - nice product placement boys).

The 1954 Dodge Coronet in the "Boy's Life" clip is actually a Canadian 1954 Dodge Regent. You can see the Plymouth taillights and the non-wrap around Plymouth rear window. The Pontiac by the curb is a 1953 or 1954 Canadian Pontiac Fleetleader. Red car waiting for the train to go by is a Canadian 1946-48 Dodge D25. No FWL models in site.
Scene was shot at Powell Street and Victoria Drive in East Vancouver. Cannot cross the railway tracks any more due to increased security access to the docks area after 9-11.

"That Night" with Juliet Lewis has her driving a nice red 1958 DeSoto at several points in the movie, and don't forget the 1957 DeSoto in the used-car lot in an absolutely great movie, "The World's Fastest Indian", at about the 53 minute mark. For 1957 DeSoto fans, "Chiefs" is the best, as a main actor (Billy Dee Williams) drives a nice blue Firedome Sportsman 2-dr HT. I have met the folks who own that car, and there are pics of it on my web site at the 2003 National DeSoto Club convention.

If you guys get a chance look up a 1980 movie called "Border Cop" starring Telly Savalas and Eddie Albert as border patrol agents on the California/Mexico border. Telly and his partner start out in a circa 1971 Chrysler that gets destroyed. As punishment, supervisor Eddie Albert assigns him a dusty 1959 Dodge four door hardtop (less than thirty minutes into the movie BTW) . The thing is - it's got 59 Plymouth style rear fins. I think it's a '59 Canadian Dodge! If you have Roku you can watch the movie on "My Retro Flix" in their ironically titled "new releases" section otherwise you can watch it for free on Youtube. On Youtube the '59 shows up @ 25:34.

No, it's not a Canadian Dodge.
The side trim shown was used on Plymouth Belvedere (MP1/2-M), Dodge Mayfair (ME1/2-M), Dodge Kingsway Deluxe (ME1/2-M) and DeSoto Diplomat Deluxe (MF1/2-M). The last two were export models built in either Canada or the U.S.. although the Canadian plant built only Belvedere, Kingsway Deluxe and Diplomat Deluxe 4 door sedans for export. The U.S. plant built all Plymouth models as export Plymouth, Kingsway and Diplomat models.
The 1959 M class 4 door hardtop was built in the U.S., but not in Canada, with production totalling 5,713. Thus there never was a 1959 Dodge Mayfair 4 door hardtop or Canadian Belvedere 4 door hardtop.
As the film was shot on the border with Mexico, the car was undoubtedly a Dodge Kingsway Deluxe from Mexico. CKD units were shipped from Detroit to Mexico where Fabricas Auto-Mex, a Mexico City distributor and assembler of Chrysler products, assembled the vehicles. Fabricas Auto-Mex was founded in 1938 and Chrysler International acquired a minority interest in the firm in 1959.
Do not have 1959 Plymouth production broken down by U.S / Canada / Export, but export Kingsway production totalled 5,476 (1,551 6 cyl and 3,925 V8) and export Diplomat production totalled 2,364 (1,309 6 cyl and 1,055 V8).

The Chrysler Kid - 2013-10-28 5:35 PM
56 Mayfair Convertible in Dr-Dolittle--Million-Dollar-Mutts 2009.
Movie was filmed in the Vancouver area. The left hand shot was taken at Casa Mia on SW Marine Drive - very old house (1920's Spanish revival mansion). I presume the right hand shot is downtown Vancouver.
As it happens, I phoned a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy to talk 56 Dodges. I ended up talking (locally) to the owner of that 1956 Mayfair Convertible (Plodge - Belvedere convert with 277 Poly /Powerflite and Dodge front clip, etc).
Except I didn't realize it at the time, he just said he had a 56 Dodge Mayfair Convert supposedly once one of 25 in Canada (back in 1956). He invited me to visit sometime.
When I googled his name to confirm his address, I bumped into several mentions of him and his museum/shop.
Here are a couple of photos from a newletter that featured his shop.

Forever Darling came out 9 February 1956 (USA) REF: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049225/
Some mainstream Feb 56 Magazine had this 10" x 13" advert. How convenient. (and I just obsessively bought it)
Got the advert in the mail the other day. I was from the Saturday Evening Post.
Here is the detail with Lucy and Desi. (She's got "A lot of 'splaning to do").
I see they added the side wings to the bumper and the bumper bar between the bumper guards.

That's a lot of 2dr Chrysler products in a row, a Chrysler 300, a Packard?, a '57 Dodge 2dr hardtop, a '58 Plymouth 2dr hardtop, and a 2dr '56 Plymouth wagon in the next scene. And the other scene with the '57 DeSoto or Dodge wagon has another '56 Chrysler or DeSoto wagon behind it. The van there might be a Dodge too, but I'm not sure. Makes it seem that Chrysler helped pay for the filming and inserted some advertising.

Butterfield 8 has a some cars. the 58 Plymouth was a chase car and im most car scenes in the end. It turns into a 59 ford there for a second and back. and it is all over the place after that.

I mentioned this movie in 2011 but here is the 1957 Belvedere Convertible from In Cold Blood 1996 is on IMCDB.
There are more FL cars in that movie. I bought and watched (mostly on Fast Forward) that movie on DVD because there was some indication that my 56 Dodge Custom Royal was in it. Never found it. BUT there were these:
57 Desoto and 55 Canadian Dodge Mayfair. Most of the movie was filmed somewhere in Alberta outside Calgary.

Great Collection of photos. Would make a great collage/poster for a Mopar nut to hang on his/her shop wall. Hint hint.
But before I go, we have to remember it's a bit Chicken and the egg as to where the name came from (first). For example, I'm pretty sure that the Savoy hotel in London is not named after the Plymouth.

I’d have to say it’s a Dodge based on the chrome molding that would be at the front of the fin just behind the driver’s door.
The photo was labeled "57 Plymouth" but I have to agree with you.
Could be this 59 Dodge:
Not likely this 57 (because of the lack of chrome) but it could be this 58 (I *think* I see some chrome):
This supposedly ex-CHP 58 definitely has the chrome:

I would say that is a Dodge and not a Plymouth judging by the door handle and the chrome trim. It could be a 1957-59 model, but there's no way to tell for sure. I don't know if you noticed it, but Broderick Crawford is handcuffed to the door frame. Yikes! What is that all about?

58 DESOTOS RULE - 2019-07-23 7:25 AM
I would say that is a Dodge and not a Plymouth judging by the door handle and the chrome trim. It could be a 1957-59 model, but there's no way to tell for sure. I don't know if you noticed it, but Broderick Crawford is handcuffed to the door frame. Yikes! What is that all about?
We've previously been around (and around) on this photo before. Please scroll up this page a bit and see the answer. (Not Plymouth)

Oh I know it's not a Plymouth in spite of what the picture title says. The door handles are a giveaway. Plymouth used refrigerator door style handles. What I'm wodering is does anyone know why Dan Mathews (Broderick Crawford) is handcuffed into his car? Was he just clowning for a publicity still or was it a plot line from one of his epsodes?

Here is the german intro of Kojak! I watched it as a 5 year+ old and always wondered about the weird looking blue coupe. Note, at the same time there is a 60 Dodge in the picture.
Sorry for commenting on a post that is over a year old, but I couldn't resist. The bulk of the intro features stock footage taken in NYC in the mid 1960s.That's why you see a 1960 Dodge and 1961 Plymouth (among other old cars) driving around the mean streets of Manhattan. Most of those cars were gone by 1973-74 when Kojak was set. He used a 1973-74 Buick colonade sedan as his personal vehicle - I think it was the Century or Regal. I drove one back in the day, but it wasn't very fast.

Yes, I guessed that because of the other cars in that scene. Early/mid60s, NYC at its peak! During the Kojak episodes you can watch the WTC raise in the background. I always thought that Kojak Buick is ugly, for an American car.

Watched the movie last night. Lots of Forward Look cars in The Irishman. Lost track of how many but 56 Plymouth Belvedere and 57 Plymouth Savoy or Plaza come to mind.
Supposedly a guy out here in California owns one of the 56 Dodges used in “highway Patrol”. I’ve never seen it though. I’ve only seen Gary Goltz driving his Buick replica.

Supposedly this was a gag photo taken by the crew and Broderick that was presented to Frederick Ziv (the “Fred” in the inscription) the producer of “Highway Patrol”. It was an inside joke,Broderick had placed himself under arrest for driving with a suspended license. Crawford had a problem with drink and had several DUI’s and was on thin ice with Ziv and the Highway Patrol. They supposedly had to film scenes of him driving on private roads and being towed by a camera car once they discovered his license was suspended. that’s also why in some scenes he’d have another officer drive for him or he would leave his car and ride in another officers car.

“Crawford's heavy drinking increased during the filming of Highway Patrol, eventually resulting in several arrests and stops for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), which eventually gained him a suspended driving license.[While representing the California Highway Patrol as "Chief Mathews", Crawford was known with considerable embarrassment by the CHP as "Old 502" due to his habit of driving under the influence of alcohol ("Code 502" was the CHP police radio code for drunken driving). According to the show's creator, Guy Daniels, "We got all the dialogue in by noon, or else we wouldn't get it done at all. He [Crawford] would bribe people to bring him booze on the set." The show used their CHP technical advisor, Officer Frank Runyon, to keep the actor sober: "I was told to keep that son of a bitch away from a bottle. I think his license was suspended. Some scenes had to be shot on private roads so that Brod could drive." Eventually the drinking strained the show's relationship with the CHP as well as Crawford's relationship with ZIV.”

My son just finished the book "Holes" and wants to see the Disney movie based on it. When he showed me the trailer I saw the back end of this '58 Saratoga.

Took me awhile to find this. Back in the 90's my wife did a lot of background and stand in work for the movie industry. Right before
I sold my Windsor it was used in a scene of a 2 part mini series called The Siege at Ruby Ridge starring Randy Quaid and Laura Dern.
my wife was Laura Derns' stand in for the filming of the movie. Got to meet a lot of the actors and hang oout at the after party with them
Some different characters in that industry...

The owner of that 58 Saratoga was a member on the forum here for quite a while. I think he has since sold the car.

Not a movie, but from the Twilight Zone, Someone can post the photo. Such a beautiful car, and a very rare sight even back then. 286 made of these beauties.

My subconscious thought that the car used for the trunk hideout in Mad Max, Beyond Thunderdome, was a Packard because of the added fins & the unrecognized rear bumper. But looking at it recently, I realized that the quarters are from a '56 Plymouth and the added fins are likely from a '57-'58 Dodge. Not sure what the bumper is from, but maybe a '56 Dodge?

In the realm of whimsical and visually stunning storytelling, 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' isn't just a film; it's a cinematic tapestry woven with Wes Anderson's signature charm and meticulous attention to detail. Released in 2014, this quirky comedy-adventure takes viewers on a delightful journey through the fictional Republic of Zubrowka. The film's ensemble cast, led by Ralph Fiennes, and Anderson's distinctive visual style create a world that is both eccentric and endearing on 0123movies. 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' isn't just a favorite; it's a whimsical escape into a meticulously crafted universe of storytelling brilliance.
58 Plymouth cvt in a used car lot in 1964. 50 bucks and a more or less worthless early 50s Chevy trade in. IIRC around minute 17+ , 59 Plymouth in the beginning

Not sure if this was mentioned but the family car in Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation with Jimmy Stewart was a 1960 Dodge Polara Wagon.
