We're waitin' on ya' LOL We just got this regional group started a few weeks ago. Soooo not too much here just yet. But we finally have a home. Like I said in another string, us Jorsey boys have to stick together. But overall? This is one great Forum to belong too. You need help, shoot up a flare. (Pssst Don't let those old farts in West Vorginny bother you. PPPPFFFFFTTTTTT Excuse me I belong to the old Fart frat too.) Lotsa good people, knowledge and sources for parts here. Everyone is willing to help. If someone doesn't know the answer, someone else does. Make frequent visits to the "Rec Room". Lots of fun there. Enjoy and don't be bashful. Location: Egg Harbor Township, NJ | Hey everyone, sorry i haven't been posting lately. School has kept me very busy. Just got back home from rochester to take the desoto out for a drive on saturday. First time in over a month. She started up on the first crank as always.
Steve- The front end is still a bit of a mess. The bushings are all going to have to be replaced again. The strut bushing are completely gone. I hope to find some polyurethane bushings, or just bushings that will last longer. I think maybe the bushings died because the front end was adjusted higher than stock?
Bob- Actually, I am 3 blocks from the old Garden State race track. It's just around the corner from me. I'm at school in rochester right now, but ill be back at Thanksgiving. Is anyone else near the old track? |

Location: New Jersey | As for my first post here at the Forward Look Forum, I thought I should make it here in this post. I am from NJ also, (Exit 5) South Jersey LOL Sorta Near Cherry Hill... Anyway, as my "name" says, I own a 56 DeSoto. I have had this car for around 5 years, and it is time to start the Resto work. I just finished my 68 Dodge D-100, so... I should have some time. I would like to find a pair of repair panels for the rear 1/4 panels, but, I looked for them awhile ago, and I never did find anyone that was re-producing them "anymore". 55 and 56 DeSotos, and Chryslers are the same repair panel. Bills speed shop used to carry them... but that was before I got my 56. The engine was apart when I got it, and I rebuilt it, then, I needed to re-do the brakes as well. I have been driving it for a while, so it is "on the road", and I now have the exact material for the interior, so it would seem I am ready for the whole restoration.

Beautiful DeSoto! A very impressive and desirable Forward Look example. Let's see more of it.
Hey Steve, did you hang the quarters on the Chrysler? I've got a set for my Regal Lancer that I want to do over this winter and I'd like to see the process done and take lessons. Let me know if I can come down to see your work. I'd be happy to give you a hand while I'm there on anything you're doing on the car. Drop me a line. |

QUOTE]
Thanks for the compliments, but OK, you asked for it, this picture is my favorite picture of my DeSoto. I sneaked onto the lawn with this F-86 as a guard in front of a Township municipal building in Burlington. I was only there for a few minutes, so I didn't think anyone would mind. Plus, I must admit, I touched up the photo a bit around the rear quarters, as they are rusty, and I didn't like that in the photo. This may be of some interest, the F-86 was built in 1955 and it did fly for the NJ Air National Gaurd too.

That is an interesting idea. In the DeSoto club, the 56 is the most owned car, with the 55 coming in second. I will have to get the counts on those and post them. I wonder where all of these people are... The DeSoto forums are really slow and that is all the years of DeSoto, so that may be an indication on why you may not see many here too. That is one of the reasons I would love to see someone make repair panels for the 55 and 56. It seems there may be a market for them.

Location: Farmingdale NJ | Yeah, I like the idea. It just seems like all everyone is interested in is '57, '58', and '59 Plymouths. I understand the interest but I know my preference always turns toward the '55, '56 years no matter which Mopar family it came from. |

Location: cornpatch county, Southwest IOA | Yes J Bob, my sentiments exactly. If there were a little section for the 55 -56 all make mopars where do you think it might be? I see the 57- 58 Plymouths have their own section. I wonder tho if this would detract from the disscussion forum?
All the makes 57-62 have similarities and are distinctly different from 55-56. I know there are several 55-56 owners but they just don't post very much about their cars. |

Great picture. That would probably qualify for a calender shot, sumbit it to our Fearless Leader Dave. It's clear where the designers of the day were getting inspiration when you see period production comparisons like this picture. Swept wing indeed! |
