Location: cornpatch county, Southwest IOA | I have a plan to submit to whoever. 57 Heaven was my choice, but that looks not to be an option if it does sell at auctin the end of October.
She is cleaned up about as well as can be. And is very fragile. I think by now the owner must agree that she can never be restored or drivable. Probably not able to be moved very much.
Ultra -One, while doing a better job than I ever expected, is about as far as they can go without really getting into mega bucks. ( where does mega bucks start)?
My proposal:
Owner of Ms Belvie and Ultra -One get together and figger how much each has in her. They then write it off their taxes as a donation. They give the car to city of Tulsa(museum or whatever) who provides a safe and secure place to display her , so that many people can enjoy her for years to come. That would be a dignified place of rest.
Simple as that...........................now you can tell me why it isn't so simple............................MO |

Location: CA | In my opinion tulsa has done a good job exploiting the car more than anything. I say Smithsonian because tulsa hasn't provided such a "safe and secure" place thus far.. mr. hotrod boyd, throwing away the cover and who knows what else. Time for real professionals who respect and preserve historical artifacts and I doubt the Smithsonian will go under as a business. |

| I actually mentioned this to Dwight when Mike McKenna and I went to Ultra One back in July.
(It was a side-trip while we were in Carlisle)
According to Dwight, the city of Tulsa is having a hard time taking any interest in the old girl now that she's out of the ground.
Apparently, the historical society can't justify another multiple day event for the car... Too much overtime for police, sanitation workers, etc.
Of course, I'm CERTAIN the city made bank on the '07 event... I can't see how they could've ever in their wildest dreams imagined the number of folks who showed up there. It HAD TO BE good for the Tulsa economy.
Anyway... Dwight has gone so far as to contact a Tulsa museum with the intent of putting the car there on display. Meanwhile, the museum curator told him "there's just no room for something like that to be on display here" - or something to that effect.
Also, according to Dwight, he and the car's owner are looking for a sponsor to provide those "Mega-Bucks" you mentioned. Their plan is to get an enclosed trailer and make the tour circuit with the car... Carlisle, Nationals, SEMA, etc. Of course, such a tour would take $$$$.
In reality, the car will probably be towed across the block at Barrett-Jackson... and someone with more money than sense will buy her for an outlandish price. At least, that seems to be what her current owner is hoping for.

(..to communicate; ooops..) to what the City intended upon doing, in preserving her for the Future.
I know that the 57 City fathers had the best of intentions (DESPITE their utter failure to seal-up the UPPER-CORNERS/JOINTS
of the vault)----but, I shall always wonder about how/why the car wasn't entombed within a WELDED-up container---the
city's Time Capsule was engulfed in agua for may years, but when it was cut open, on 6/15/07 its contents were (still) new.
Ms. Belvie's present worthless condition, except as a parts car, will be the legacy of the greedy "family" and the stupid-greediness
of Ultra None (and, of the naivety/ingenuousness of The City in thinking that a 'plastic' baggee could protect the car from any
water intrusion into the vault).

and/or oxidized), ALL of the stainless pieces, the engine block (bored/honed out), the wheels/tires (probably, for
a date-coded trailer queen/museum piece)---maybe some of the potmetal pieces.
Anything else?

Miss Belvie should be stabilized from further deterioration and go back to a Tulsa museum for a historical display. |

There's a 4 page story titled "Reviving Miss Belvedere" in the this month's (February)
issue of Auto Restorer Magazine. I've only been getting the magazine for a year
but its generally good stuff.
No time to read the story yet but a quick skim says about 2 1/2 pages on the car and 1 1/2 about
Ultra One and their process. A fair amount of photos. I think we've seen similar photos of the
car here on the Forwardlook site.
I've checked the magazine web site and they haven't updated from January yet.

I hadn't heard there was an attempt being made to start the engine, but from what I saw three years ago it would be a major undertaking. The engine must surely be a solid mass of iron oxide I should think?

Second of all, even if you could get a long enough chain, trailering that thing would throw off the trajectory of the shuttle! My God, man! Haven't you ever seen the movie Apollo 13 - that space mission stuff is high science.
Geez! I am trying to put some reasonable alternatives together here and you folk just jump right in with these crazy ideas - making a mockery of this whole thing. I don't think I will even mention my idea to preserve it with a particle accelerator.

Hell the car might not kill her. She might like the car so much, she let's it fly around with her on her personal jumbo jet. She'll say, "You know, for the first time in my life I've found something uglier than me. And she can't be fixed up. Just like me".
