The large back window was optional on Windsor and Saratoga for 1959, standard on New Yorker and 300-E

Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Hi Morgan
The smaller rear window is probably more common on Windsors, at least in original production. Its hard to say how many would be left, of each type.
Here's what I believe is the production sequence for the Golden Lions on the doors / rear quarters : ( have photos of all three of the following types - three distinctly different installations of the lion and gold crowns )
On USA production WINDSORS, the early production cars had the Golden Lion on the rear quarters with three small gold crowns on the front door under the dip. ( this would be like the pale green car in the photo above ) Later production cars had the Golden Lion on the door in place of the 3 small crowns, like the cream / red colored car that has the auto club decal and plate on the trunk lid rear. On Canadian Production cars, there was NO golden lion, and all production had the 3 small gold crowns on the front door under the dip. The black car pictured below is a Canadian Windsor, with only the small gold crowns on the door, and no Lion on the rear.
I can't tell on your car whether it has the Golden Lion on the door - Your car is very similar to the other cream / red car in the photograph I submitted above, the one with the auto club plates on the rear.

I think they have us out numbered on most the FL convertibles there, Particualarly the Senior 57-58 Desoto Convertibles and probably
59 Soto ragtops too.

Hi Eric! Do you have a 4 door ht with big rear window?
There were no Sky High rear windows on any four doors from 57-59. 1960 was the first year for the large rear windows, which were standard on Phoenix, Polara, New Yorker, Adventurer and Fury four door hardtops, optional on Windsor and Saratoga Sedans and 4 door hardtops, and optional on Belvedere, Matador and Fireflite 4 door hardtops. These large rear windows were used through 1964 on the Dodge 880s but were optional on some, standard on others. By 1962 the only Chrysler with the large rear window was the New Yorker 4 door HT, ( USA built ) and not even optional on the Newport or 300 4 door hardtops, but they were standard on Canadian built 1962 Windsor and Saratoga 4 door hardtops. It can get pretty confusing. |

What is a sky high window, mine is certainly larger than a sedan window.
Yes, yours would be, as the sedans in 79-59 used a completely different roof than the four door hardtops, and therefore, different rear windows. For the two door hardtops, 57-59 there were two sizes of rear windows, standard and " Sky-High" ) - the Sky-High window was as high as the top rear of the roof, like the cars pictured above. The standard rear window was more like the four door hardtop rear window on your car. There were NO Sky-High 4 door hardtop rear windows during the 57-59 period. However, starting in 1960, the four door sedans and four door hardtops used the same rooflines, with two different rear windows available - standard and sky-high. Hope this clears it up. See pictures below of 1960-62 standard and sky high rear windows on four door hardtops. Also starting in 1960, all 2 door hardtops received a high rear window, there was no low rear window available as per 1957-1959 2 door hardtops.

One interesting bit of trivia in the same vein is that 1963 Chryslers used the same bumper on front and rear. 1964 Chryslers which were very similar to 63s, used a completely new front bumper, while the rear was the same as that used in 63 on front and rear.

They aren't the same, but they are similar.
And the rear under bumber at Chrysler 59 is not same as DeSoto 59. The Desoto is 1-2 inch shorter at the side. |

Minor correction: For U.S. built 1960 DeSotos, all 4dr Sedan and 4dr Hardtop Adventurers got the large rear window. All 4dr Sedan and 4dr Hardtop Fireflites got the smaller back window. It was not an option for the Fireflite. If you see an '60 Adventurer with the small window, it was a Canadian model. All Canadian 4dr Sedan Adventurers have the small back window.

Location: bishop, ca | The 59 NY'er 2-doors look and feel/ride like Frank Sinatramobiles, especially in black and silver.
The overall riding experience is better in/from their rear seats, than from the front seat, because a rear passenger
can take in all the relaxation and seating comfort that the various colors and textures and views afford, back there. And,
then, there's that sky-high back window....
My friend's car photos are not kept in any one file folder (being a 59 NY'er), so I'll have to do some research to find good
shots of them, hmmmm..like that trip to Ridgecrest....

it was out for 290000 swedish kronor (around 40.000usdollars) i think it´s sold. haven´t bin able to find it again! but there is this saratoga he asked 160.000 swedish krones!http://www.blocket.se/jonkoping/Chrysler_sarratoga_59_24875873.htm?ca=13&w=3
Yes, it's already got a new owner. The previous owner is a WPC member and the new contacted me for some insurance questions.
Indeed it's a beautiful car, I'll give the new owner a hint of this site |

Beautiful '59 New Yorker -- that's one of my favorite FL cars and one of Exner's best-executed '59 models, I think. |

Photos have now been sent on to Sir Clive, for posting, here.
Alright; found these in a Woodley Park car show photo file.
Note how glamorous and spacious and comfortable the rear seating area is.
Beyond the 1955 Plymouth, and the 1961 SeSoto, the 1959 Ny'er 2-dr
is one of the FEW FWDLH'ers which looks good with rear 'fender' skirts
on it.
This car is technically-maybe for sale (as everything has its price),
but the
owner does not need to sell it, but he'll probably let it go, for around
$30k
for any interested Scandinavians, out there.
The car is jaw-dropping, in person, and was built with the gas-fired heater
(removed from the car, but still exists).

Interestingly, it has an ashtray in the arm support groups. There seems to be different places in ashtray are mounted. Some have them in the back of swiwel seat and that it has arm rests in the limits. Does anyone know? |

I look forward to the newspaper reportage: If the paint is the leaching is a small deviation from the original, the tint is Matador Red is actually a 57 Chevrolet color.
I do not know what it means if it was the original red or another color
Interior at pics: seats in red vinyl with insert black fabric. New done. And door panel is "same" as Dodge Custom Royal 57, ho was one off two orginal difference door panels to 59 Windsor.
The engine was the 413 original states in the article. Have just heard that there were 383 2 ports with optional 4-port. Do you know anything about this 413 in Windsor

You're saying that it may, now, be wearing a 57 Chubbie paint color?

Location: Upplands Väsby, Sweden | Hi Mogge!
I know the black one in US with out topframe and all ather conv molding is gone and maby windows was there left.
It is very very difficult to found this conv parts and very expensive, I have only see one top frame to sale at 10 years and some conv moldings ho being sold to hight prices.
But maby one off Carlo or KP Usa bil have one. Or you buy the black one and hope you found the parts or have it in sun out.
Many windsor conv has being parts car to 300 cars and the ather has going to the junkyard for long time ago because it was not a top off the line car.
The last Windsor 59 conv I know is one Billström (seller) in Sweden. He has a ad at a white windsor conv with peirsad interior ho was at sale in US. This ad I see in year 2004-2005. Maby Billström remember, the car not being sold to Sweden.
and a guy in Udevalla in Sweden sold a good Windsor 59 conv project (body) to Stefan and Molle in Lidköping in year 1999 and they took the body to a 300? The frame (under the body) have Carlo.

Location: bishop, ca | Morgan, can your car's grille be repaired/replated, or are you needing to find another grille assembly for it?
Is it chromed potmetal, or polished stainless steel?
Or, is it merely missing some individual parts/pieces for it?

Nothing like having proper-sized tires on our cars!
What's he got invested in those wheels/tires?

Location: Nasco , SWEDEN | He has roughly 1000$ in it! Many "schmucks" here in sweden dumps their wirewheels in favor for 20-22 inch aluminum wheels! it´s 15 inchers with L 78-15. look at my car, i´ve got 8.50-14 they look too small but is actually one size bigger than original standards

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | That's the way to do it Mogge - the impression of that moment will stick like a burn mark on that youngsters mind. They did it to me looong time ago, with Buick's, Caddy's, Buses and Trucks and I can still remember even the smell of the interiors mixed with underlying aromas of heavy gearoils, gasoline and diesel. Every time I go to a junk yard, those memories comes rushing back to me, and they still fills me with joy. |

The plates on the 1959 Chrysler Memphian Ambulance are for the Province of Manitoba. The dark strip on the bottom of the rear plate is a metal piece with "Manitoba" and 2 digits for the year. It was held in place by three tangs. The black image in the left bottom corner is a plains bison, emblem of Manitoba.
Not sure if Riverview was an ambulance company or the Riverview Municipal Hospitals in Winnipeg. The King Edward and King George hospitals were built to handle contagious diseases while the Princess Elizabeth was built around 1947 for terminal cancer patients. The King George handled polio patients, myself being one when I was eight years old.

Hi Bill!
Thanks for the informations, you can the car history. I have not see a Windsor ambulance before.
But I not see any phone number at the car ho I can call.....
The lack of a phone number lead me to believe it was owned by the hospitals. Dispatch would have been done by the hospitals to pick up patients to transport them to the site or from the site to another location. Winnipeg was the first city in North America to adopt a centralized dispatch centre with a three digit number, 9-9-9, in 1959. 9-1-1 came later.
This unit does not appear to be a regular Memphian job. Memphis Body usually took a four sedan that had been beefed up with H-D suspension and powertrain. They then extended the body and built a higher greenhouse with higher window frames on the doors. Their main source of cars was DeSoto, although they built a unit on a 1958 Imperial. "The Plymouth and DeSoto Story" by Don Butler shows a 1957 Memphian DeSoto conversion on page 215, as well as two Armbruster extended sedans.
A unit similar to Riverview's 1959 ambulance is shown on page 311 of "70 Years of Chrysler" by George H. Dammsnn. It is a 1958 Chrysler New Yorker, although the author was not able to identify who did the conversion, it was a factory authorized job that could be ordered through your local dealer. A 1957 version is shown on page 308. No 1959 versions are illustrated.

If you want to contect them, it is now known as the Riverview Health Centre -

The site celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. The King Edward Memorial Hospital (so named as it opened one year after King Edward VII died) was opened in 1911 and the King George in 1914. Both have been torn down and replaced. |

Very nice photo, Morgan!
Why do the scenes from every photo from Sweden always look so darn tidy?!
: )
Thats what they are. Even in the countryside every wreck is hided to recently painted barns in good order and after the mowing lawn (every day in summer) they finish it up with razor
And every yard is more like a park.
I love that too everytime i visit Sweden!
There is big country east from us wich is just opposite.
No one washes their cars nor never repaint their houses (if its not worth of few millions). If the window gets broken they but the cardboar to fill it, Streets are cleaned maybe once ayear, at countryside never. Things are left where tehy got broken and trash is dumbed where ever you please, It seems there are no such a thing as lawnmower there.
Sure they got huge nice palaces and parks in big cities where turists visit but the country towns and villages... |

If you have ever been to Frankenmuth, Michigan you would see the same thing. It's a lovely German community that is spectacular compared to pretty much all the other places I have lived and/or visited in my lifetime. We were born, grew up, and educated in Michigan, visited Frankenmuth many times but have been out of Michigan for over 40 years and my memories of Frankenmuth will last forever. I trust it's the same now and if I ever went back to Michigan to live, that would be my pick. Holland, Michigan and Traverse City, Michigan are also very nice but I'm not wanting to go back to 9 months of winter and three months of rough sledding a my age not to mention the "rust belt" that comes with it.
