For sale from a private collector: 1960 Plymouth 2 dr sedan factory built police car. This car is a pursuit special. It has a 361 golden commando engine with the special air cleaner, dual point distributor and 4 bbl carburetor. 3.31 rear axle. Location: bishop, ca | The P/T plate would be nice to see, and I wonder where all of the Cop-Specific equipment and
mounting-attachment holes are?
The generator should be large, and, maybe even the optional cop-alternator--And, this car had no
'growler' or spot/emergency lights or whip antenna on it?
No paperwork on it, either?
It looks like a Civilian-purchased cop car---like, the current versions of the Chargers that you can buy
which have all the car car options on them.

Location: bishop, ca | Beyond the decal on the heater and the "Certified" speedometer, I don't see anything on this car that confirms
its PD-provenance.
Nice car, and probably a real factory-rod, but, show me da INFO on it.
As far as the decal is confirmed, I've never seen such an item, before, but, if a car were to be built for PD service,
(with all the bells and whistles and HD-Cop-equipment on it) why would the factory NEED to put any decals on it, further
advertising its obvious law enforcement duty?????
Also, wasn't the HD radiator, in 1960, the same style as on/for the earlier years, with the upper-hose
connection located over on the far passenger's-side of its upper tank?
This car has 14" wheels on it; real (high speed) highway-patrol cars had 15" wheels on them.

The vin# is 3901210263.
3=plymouth 8 cyl
9= special models
0= 1960 model
1=Plymouth plant Detroit
Emailed seller and data plate confirms its a Pursuit special code 397. Book by Darrell Davis shows 1960 Plymouth specials as having the following standard equipment:
Golden Commando 395 V-8 361 cubes
Police brakes 12X2.5
Calibrated speedo
heavy duty shocks and springs
foam seat cushion
heavy duty front and rear seat springs
front arm rests
sun visors
rubber floor mats
40 amp hour battery and heat shield
14X6 heavy duty wheels
electric wipers
full flow oil filter
Belvedere type horn ring
Savoy heavy duty upholstery
hot water heater and defroster
body side mouldings omitted
dual horns
I agree decal is not factory. |

Location: bishop, ca | So, Jim, this could be a Civilian order car?
On the other-hand, maybe the factory did/could-have put a "PD" decal on a Civilian
ordered PD-equipped car?

| I guess you never know..... Owner says the car was delivered new to a dealer in IOWA. There isn't even a cutout in the dash for a radio! Owner told me before they painted it it had a small hole in the roof for wiring and a ring where a bubble had been. Cars paint code is black BB1 |

that carpeting?

Location: Royal Oak, MI | So this car's "Special" coding on the VIN and data plate means it's neither a Belvedere nor a Savoy? It doesn't fall into any of the three regular Plymouth series for that year? |

Location: Parts Unknown | Correct. Fleet cars had no model designation. Municipal, law enforcement, ... even the Forest Service
bought vast fleets of cars. The cop stuff stands out because of its high performance Pursuits and its high
visibility with the public.
