What the hell? Doesn't this region do anything?? Is Docs new garage the only activity we can muster?? Isn't there ANYONE that can get off their ass and actually post something of value here, so we don't appear so lame to entire FRIGGIN' WORLD??

I am so ashamed.

I'm in Vancouver, Wa and wish there were FL cars in this area. I went and met the WPC club in this area a couple years ago and it didn't feel right for me.
My ride will be changed in different ways which doesn't meet with the WPC club.

It's not the region that sucks friends, it's more about that some people just not are into participating in a forum. Some people does not want to share knowledge and experience, while some others does not think that they have anything worth to share. Look at my region - I do most of the posting there, really! I trie to motivate our members but I fail to make posts that will engage people and interest them to participate. I think we should all be happy that we have an overall large number of poster that is making this forum a great place. Don't forget that we, as a group posesses the largest FL knowledge alive today and that really counts for our newbie tenderfoots as well as for us seniors - I get AHA sensations every day here and I hope that this count for all of us.

Here is my meger contribution. The attached picture shows my 56 Dodge which I paid $500 for ... factory paint, no rust. It hasn't moved with its own power since 1992 when it broke a connecting rod ... because I was a stupid high school kid who abused it.

The foreground shows that one of my children decided to put a can of tomatoes in my vise.

Around here you never see forwardlook cars.

I have my eye on a 56 CRL sedan that was a D-500 car. Someone nabbed the engine and the kid that owns/owned it has a
marine 383 sitting loose in the engine bay ... at least that is what he told me it is. I could really use a few parts he has, but
am reluctant to part this car, being a genuine D-500. The "kid" swallowed a shotgun last fall and the car is just sitting, the old
man has cancer, and I am torn about what to do.

With my shop under construction,I need another distraction and expense like I need another hole in my head, but as we all
know, you have to jump on things when they come up. Anyone want to build a D-500 sedan ? Maybe go in on the deal so the
car gets saved ? It does have some lower quarter rust and the potmetal is pretty rough.

I'd much rather see the car action than the proctology action, as I've had more than my share of butt cams in recent years. That can of tomatoes stuff in the vice might be cool though.

Doc, I'd just give Neil the tip on the D-500 car and let him show us how it SUPPOSED to be done. If you did it yourself, you know he and his posse will just tear it to pieces. If he doesn't save it himself, I think he has no further business mouthing off on others cars in the future. Might be a two-bird situation there.

We need a Region "Big To Do". Somewhere sorta-kinda-central. Snohomish is too far North. Who's central and can help put something together? I'll help if someone bites. Otherwise, I'm putting our region in for the Biggest Fat Ass's of the Year award in the Couch Potato International competition.

I PM'd our (ahem) moderator regarding a description of our region borders. He has not deigned to respond as yet, so I have no friggin' idea where "Central" is.

All I know is it goes from Canada down to at least Big M's yard, but no idea how east it goes.

OK, you guys,

Turns out we have no idea where our region borders are.

North Cal, Or, WA for sure but what about Idaho, North Nevada?

Anyone have any thoughts?

How in the hell did we get a region but not have a clue where and who was in it?? Did the Gummint set this one up or what?

Give us yer thoughts, Whatever we decide will go into a sticky so a guy in the future can figure out if he is cool or not (being cool would be in as opposed to out, for those who were wondering).

Keep in mind that it is more difficult to handle a really big area as opposed to a smaller one, and also that the more the merrier.

Myself, I'd go for all of the above, IF the Idaho and North Nevada folks want to be cool. But then you have to draw a line in the sand in south Northern Cal and south Northern Nevada.

I have driven down to Big M's yard and that is not just a quick weekend drive from Snohomish (although that's how I did it with my brother).

Spill yer beans, guts, and beer about it here.

No cancer, but I do have a case of Kokanee in the auxillary (sic?) reefer and I spent a chunk of yesterday
surgically removing two stud (16' walls) to place the beam posts. Git everything marked and will install the
post today. Might even tip a couple of those barley-pops in the process ? Beam is supposed to be here
between the 12th and 15th. Plenty going on in MY region !

Tacoma checking in. Crazy busy and pulse weak. Plus only a non-running project car until finances catch up. (Can't even swing the white coronet.) I know at least one other posting and driving member in town though. I've been too busy and haven't been to anything since the 300 meet here a while back. I got to Ellensburg too late to make it to the WPC meet this weekend ... I forgot about it until last minute and didn't post it. Well, there's a big all-years MoPar show August 22, 2010, and I'll post that later. Umm... the LeMay Museum finally broke ground, and consensus is that it will look like a giant grub worm. Do I get a royal banning for following up?

Sorry to break the suckingness, but this region just awarded me another side job that should see
the shop roof through to completion. I'll get the side job all wrapped up before starting the work,
but will post pix as it goes down. After the roof is on, pour the slab, and the DeSoto project is back

I have been out working on my side job in the evenings after work. Got a few more days before it is done.
Last night I headed home, ... the air was thick with the smells of the pine forests, grassy fields, aspen stands,
and even the lake I passed. Every twist in the road was heaven on the nose. The weather has been divine and
in spite of our region sucking, I am having a great summer and every day gets me one step closer to my goals.

Doc,

Our Summer on the wrong side of the Cascades is like our region so far. It sucks. Finally a few straight days of heat, sun, and projects. Won't last though. We suck too bad for it too last.

Dave L is chomping at the bit to do follow up so he can earn a banning (A Royal Banning I think he said). I vote we let him do the followup and dispense with the Royal Banning he has asked for. If we give him everything he wants all the time, he will be disillusioned and conditioned for entitlement mind-sets. We gotta save him from himself and not ban him.

Oh, the bane of banning !

The Dear One pursuaded me to back off my side job today and apply for a security position with Bureau of Reclamation.
This will be the third one in the works. I swear, by the time you ever hear back, you've forgotten what they are calling about !

But as it relates to sucking vs. not sucking, with this little side job done, I should be able to buy all the materials to frame the
roof and weather the shop in. I will still have a few months of good weather to maybe get the floors poured ????

OK, .... since no one else is offering up some FL holiday action, here's what I AM doing ....

12,000 miles from home, I am paying off my house, and socking enough dough away to finish the shop,
and should have a bunch left over for toys like a lift and a plasma cutter. I'll update the shop thread
when it happens. But for now, just doing my job and banking the dough.

You guys mean to tell me that the entire collective PNW region has NOTHING to report back but the
sound of crickets ? It is winter ! No one has locked themselves in the garage and got some work done ?

OK, my powerflite has just been rebuilt as of yesterday. I will get that back this weekend with a engine hoist so the 331 poly and transmission can go back into the chassis. My goal is this before Jan. 1. How's that?

Did some say something in here?? Hello??

I thought I heard something.

Jessica, if them Colorado boys don't treat you right, you just come on up to Wa. and we'll take care of you. Course, you need a building with dehumidifier and heat to put your car in, secure doors, a couple of guns, and your old cars will have to meet current day Ca. emissions standards (because we are home to all the Californians that f**ked up California and they are hard at work f**king up Washington now).

But it's a really nice place!

Bonus is, we don't talk much, but that's OK 'cause we don't listen much either, so it's all good there. We are also a frequent host to anarchists out of Oregon, whom you may have seen in action in the Battle of Seattle a few years ago.

Also, if you are of the Liberal persuasion, your vote will always count, sometimes many, many times in any individual election. If you are more Conservative or Libertarian, your vote gets flushed down the sewey hole. It's OK though, cause the sewer treatment plant has a sludge program here, so your vote gets to fertilize the vegetable gardens that feed all the Vegan, Liberal, Tree Hugging, Animal Rights, Anti-hunting, Anti-gun neighbors.

So don't be a stranger if Colorado doesn't work out, Jess.

Mike,

Is there any particular reason you still live on the wet side ?

Is it the over-inflated property values ? The 300 days of rain and/or grey per year ? Is it the staggering
traffic and 'burban sprawl ?

Or is it just the reasons you listed above ?

My side of the state is dry and reasonable. Escape while you still can.

Doc, I'd a been gone long ago, but my business keeps me here. Been running it since 1987 and it's too old to move willy-nilly.

However, if the State ever divided at the Cascade ridge line, I'd then be forced to pick up lock stock and barrel and head your way. Without the East side to mitigate the bulls**t, I'd be taxed and bullied out of business.

Not much going on around here show or swap meet-wise lately. Been picking up a boatload of cars lately, and got the yard overflowing again.

Picked up this non-FL car this last week, getting it running and drivable now.

Wow. I don't know anything about the amusement park industry, but if someone showed me that and aked what I thought it was worth, I probably would have guessed between 10 and $20K. $230K? I guess that explains why I have to pay 4-5 dollars to ride one of these things.

But you know John, having this thing at your yard may be a good idea. Dad could bring the whole family.

Speaking of regions that suck, where the hell do I belong now that I have located in Southwestern Idaho? Seems I have no region, so I guess I can pick any one I want. It's OK, though 'cause I don't have any cars (FL or otherwiae) and I don't have any liberal, big city bulls**t to put up with.

Hey Mike, Happy New Year to all, and especially you west coast guys. There is a wealth of info on this site and I appreciate all the tips I have picked up. I enjoy sharing what I've been doing to the wife's 59 Dodge. But sometimes wonder about the line between sharing and bragging. My first FL car was a 56 Dodge back in 1962. I bored out a 270 V8 about .125 and then wondered why I couldn't keep crank bearings in it. I was 19 and in the USAF in Rapid City, SD. Then got a 57 Ply and put a 392 Hemi in it. Great idea,,,,bad combination !!!!! Found out the hard way why Chry Corp wouldn't let Ply Division use it in the Furys. I took my 65 New Yorker to the Mopar Alley show this yr, and met up with John, (Big M ) and John Quinn from Denver area. Got a chance to see John Fowlie's 57 Fury, nice car. John and I each got a 2 nd place trophy. It would be nice for more of us to get together for some of these shows, too bad life has to get in the way of things we would rather be doing. I went to John's yard ( Big M ) couple times and have become well acquainted. He has been extremely helpful, and a pleasure to talk to. I could post more pics of the body work I'm doing if anyone is interested. Happy Motoring!! Jerry

I'm in Meridian, a suburb of Boise. Nice area...I really like it. I DO have cars...a 1991 Cadillac Eldo Biarritz w/ 18K original miles, and two drivers, a 2009 4 X 4 Explorer and a 2008 Caddy STS. Nothing FL or classic. I have been watching the plethora of FL and other "old car opportunities" that come up all the time around here...nearly bought a '57 Coronet 2-door sedan about a month ago that was really interesting but too much work for this old guy. I'll eventually find something to tinker with, but no heavy restorations or repair work in the forecast. So what region am I in?

Far as I am concerned, Jim, you can join in with this region, since Idahoans are not in a specific region. I know there is George Mckovich from Twin Falls, and Robert ['56 Royal Dodge] from I D Ho, they pop in from time to time.

I'll keep an eye out for a nice FL for you too. Tell your brother hi as well, I miss his brand o0f humor on this board.

Jim, If you actually read the entire thread (I know, our region sucks so bad it's hardly worth reading even a little about it) the Moderator (Our boy John at Big M) set our boundaries and you are definitely part of the biggest suck fest region on the Forward Look board. TaDaaaaahhhhhhh! Winner! Winner!

And if your brother is in Idaho as well, let him know he officially sucks now too!!! A Two-fer!

So, as our newest members, you boys are in charge of putting some sort of meet/greet together so we can all sit around sucking together (did that sound right when I said it out loud???)

Better get on it. Summer will be here before you know it.

Hmmmm as an Aussie, 61plymy, I have to dispute your claim to the largest region

Australia's overland area is about 3 million square miles (7.8 million square kilometers).

This does include a bit of water but all I could see on a quick google search. Might even be able to claim the least amount of mopars per square mile as well, but dont hold me to that lol

If we in Idaho are not officially in a region, then I guess we are truly forgotten "sewer scum". That is just what I was looking for when I moved here....get the hell away from any "recognized population center and politically driven environment". Guess I succeeded. Now I have to go out and wash the eggs off the front of my house!

You misread my response, I think. I stated we were the biggest "suck-fest region", which in no way can be construed to mean the biggest region. Unless you are asserting the Aussie region is also a suck-fest region, in which case I would renounce my claim.

Sorry for the confusion.

I bet it was that darned electro-multi-viscosity fluid he was talking about. Or whatever it's called. Something hydraulic though.

Doc: I went to Ft. Worth for a lucrative "second career" opportunity (which actually turned out to be two opportunities). After 8 years, my homing instinct for the Northwest kicked in (or was it the 100 degree days with 100% humidity?). Anyway, it was a neat adventure but the NW is home. And Mike, it's electro-rheostatic hydraulic fluid that changes viscosity when varying current is passed through it. Try to keep up! But that is not what I was working on down there...it was actually aircraft componentry, much the same as I did in Yakima. Exciting, huh?

Hell, I knew it was elctro some-thing-or-other, Jim. That counts as keeping up in my book. I saw some program a few weeks ago about that crap in another application, but I cannot dredge up what it was.

At this point in my life, I may have taken the Cliff Claven Buffalo Theory a few brain cells too many. It is hard as hell to remember the extraneous s**t any more. Names, too, seem to elude me until many hours of rumination. I think Alzheimers (Oldtimers) is creeping in upon me.

Good thing the a**holes in the sewer let a guy know immediately when he's f**ked up. Don't know how I'd function without it.

Good to see Brother Bill is alive and kicking, too. He's still taking your calls apparently?

Since becoming our region's roving Suckfest reporter, I decided to let me face grow long.

After a few months, this science project is getting irritating at times and I am toying with
shaving it all off. So, just to keep with the exciting nature we PNW'ers have grown accustomed
to, I just thought I'd keep you all up to speed on my wish-washing on whether or not to shave
my beard before going to Australia in February.

This almost ranks with Bill's morning dump report.

You can wear a beard in the ranks these days? We couldn't do it because our gas mask would not seal with a beard. So it has been determined no gas will be used in conflict, or just that they figure they can make do without the bearded guys when the gas hits?

I'm cornfused, once again, Doc.

My deployment is with Dyncorp-Int'l, the largest military contractor in the southern
theatre. Hence the lack of regs on facial fuzz. I work directly with all branches of the
U.S. military and report directly to them on many of our missions. So, it is kinda like
being enlisted, except the money is a lot better and movement can be a lot more varied.

However, I am utterly amazed by what the Army is accepting these days in terms of
ridiculous tattoos .... what we call "jobstoppers" at the prison.

No real threat of gas attacks in AFG. That was a Saddam thing, a couple "blocks" west
of here.

OK, Doc. Don't buy another car.

I invite you to invest your hard earned hazard pay in my project car. Your stinkin' shop build can wait till your NEXT deployment.

BUT.........no matter what, we live in a sucking region of inactivity and derision of those who dare to stick out.

Party Time??

Party time? Good point. All we do here is party like it's 1999.

I'm left asking, where are all YOUR hard-earned bux going ? With that ceaseless rain
and dark grey sky, what else do you have to do but work and get that car finished ?

What a slacker !

Now, ... back to the party.

Actually,

I was gonna wait till Jerry finishes his car and then he'll have time to come finish mine. With your money and Jerry's labor I should be in fine shape.

So I guess then it's on me to supply the beer then, right?

I'm in Vancouver, Wa and wish there were FL cars in this area. I went and met the WPC club in this area a couple years ago and it didn't feel right for me.
My ride will be changed in different ways which doesn't meet with the WPC club.

I'm in the area, I have put on a car show downtown Vancouver for the past six years but just recently became aware of this network.

Kinda far from Arkansaw. But as most know the FL Regions don't get together that much. Someday the FL community will have to agree on a place and we ALL show up. If the Rambler Club can put on shows why can't we put on "1" show???

So where is about 1/2 way for everyone?

Maybe around Williams California

Seems to be a bit of a party area and I have heard rumours that theres a guy there that
has some FL cars (amoungst others) that he pulls apart for fun.

Also heard something about moonshine, but not sure on that one

I,ll get there one day lol

I nominate our new Arkansas guy to bring the moonshine as he's WAYYyyyyyyy closer to Appalacha (sp?) than we here.

Glad I was able to help you flush your sinuses there Doc. I know how dusty they must be after the time you've spent snorting all that A-rab dust. Probably won't snore so bad for a while now.

I'm not sure how Williams keeps getting the nod as the 1/2 way place. It might qualify as a halfway house though. Halfway between the Mopars and the Merc's.

But I AM up for a party sometime. I still think Doc's place would be good. Especially if he ain't home yet.

OK,

I have a picture of the area of our suckey region.

Now, someone pick a central point and lets have meet-up somewhere sorta kinda central.

Dorsey and Doc are the planners extraordinaire for this event. I pledge $30.00 or one bottle of Mac, whichever I have handy at the time.

Get it together guys. Our 3 straight days of no rain is coming soon (some folks call that Summer, but we here in Seattle area call it good weather).

Seattle and Williams and Little Rock are out automatically because they are at the edges.

Who is donating what to the cause? And "lip service", "gas" (as in intestinal gas) and promises do not count either.

Mike

Did I miss another meeting or something?

Crap, Arkansas was already a stretch, now Colorado.

Although I can't brag about blowing up 'stuff' or shooting at anyone, I have been busy. The trans on the riding lawn mower froze up. Made by Spicer, would have thought they would have made it a little better than that. $400 for a new one, decided to fix this one. $40 for parts and am back to mowing the yard. P/S box on the 77 Cordoba got sloppy, got another one at junk yard, so got it back together. Will grease the frt end this AM and road test. Better take the dog along, as she sat in the back seat most of yesterday and didn't seem to understand why the car didn't move. Gas prices are coming down and car shows coming up, so hoping for a fun summer. Take care Guys, and 'keep it in one lane' . Jerry

Jerry,

You'll have to make it up to the Maxwell rodeo car show, there arfe usually lots of Mopars there, and it's free!

We usually do a BBQ at the yard after the show is over. I'll have to get the date, but usually the third Saturday in May.

Looks like May is going to be a busy month for shows. I have the New Yorker scheduled for upholstery shop May 7, sounds like he will have it for a week. That should let it be a bit more competative and still be able to enjoy touring. John, I'm registered for a 10th annual local show, May 19. I hope this doesn't conflict with your rodeo show. I'd like to get up there for that. If nothing else, just to piss off Doc. HA !! Jerry

Believe it or not, most of the MOPARs aren't ours. This year John is driving Christine, my sister and best friend are taking Brutus, Big Al might take Flo, and I and my nephew Jack (7 years old) will be taking the Hurst Olds. His first ride in a classic car will be in an olds and not a mopar, sorry. The Olds is the only car with seatbelts and an 8 track. M'Lisa

not doing to your car, or just sit back and quietly confirm that nothing is going on with silence.
It's all good here. Gotta be flexible in your suckiness.

Us Pacific Northwesterners are fiercely independent and territorial, so much so that we must maintain at least a 100 mile radius between us and another forum member at all times.

And as you can tell by Dr. Desoto's other posts, some of us suffer from social neurosis.

And I'm pretty sure Idaho isn't technically in either the PNW or Rocky mountain region. We are in the neither world, feared by mortals.

When I got home a couple days ago, I went out in the shop and just looked at the DeSoto.
Yesterday I was looking at the Dodge while I pawed through the 66 Coronet for paperwork.

I videotaped myself talking to no one in particular with a lot of time focused on my shoes to
replicate a PNW Region "meeting". Look for it on Youtube.

3 weeks leave. Then back to the fun ... the "good" months when it is hot as hell.

Unless these assbags finally kick up, I am done at end of contract. I have been
working 2 steps above my pay grade for almost two years now and am pretty much
done with lazy slobs making five times my income on my upline, too busy covering
their ass and going to the gym while good people out in the field languish with no
support. I hate to leave my team, as they will suffer without me pushing for them,
but two years is enough. Maybe come home and get a couple certs and go back ?
I don't know. It would be easier to come in fresh at a higher pay grade than push
up from below. The "boys club" cronyism system sucks, but it is deeply entrenched
and I am done fighting it. 13 Sept. is my last day unless big changes occur.

Doctor DeSoto - 2012-05-21 11:06 PM Welcome, new suckass region member ! Be sure to update the forum on everything you're not doing to your car, or just sit back and quietly confirm that nothing is going on with silence. It's all good here. Gotta be flexible in your suckiness. Speaking of sucky, ... what kind of ugly-ass car you got ? I'm out of Spokanistan. Drop a line if you ever want to link up. We can just stand around and look at the ground and not say anything.

That last  statement made me actually laugh out loud, Doc. Good one.

Gotta say you guys are making way to much noise. Asking about getting together and such, having meetings...... that's sorta anti-PNW-region speak if you ask me.

Next time I log in I hope this thread has not progressed again as it did this last period of inattention. Get it together, boys. Others are watching us for leadership here.

Mike

Geeze Guys,,,,,,,,,,elephants ?? Went to Mopar Alley show June 2nd. The 65 New Yorker got 1st place in its class. Pretty much the same bunch of cars there, maybe not quite as many as last yr. There was a real nice 41 Ply delivery sedan, and a nice 59 Dodge 2dht (not in the show). Took some pics, haven't got around to down sizing to post them. Arthritis in lower back been killing me lately, so can't sit very long in front of this dumb -ss computer. Been working on trunk floor for the 59 Dodge. Got the new donor floor done and am cutting out the hacked up floor that's in there now. Took pics, need to resize them too. OK, gotta get out of this chair. Bye,, Anyone ever try medicinal mariwana for arthritis? Just curious? Jerry

Jerry, you live in the land of fruits and nuts, I'd think you'd have a plethora of neighbors willing to give you their personal experience with pain and Mary Jane.

I think, in the interest of preserving our patented suckiness, you should start a PNW medical thread regarding members success or failure with using various folk remedies to address their malady 'de jeur.

Someone could also start a different but related thread showing the effects of drugs and alcohol on their car projects, such as cosmetic improvements possible once one gets a load on and picks up that handy-dandy plasma cutter or how smoking weed improves your welding bead.

in the shop yet and how this is going to suck. I guess I could still be living in a tent in AFG where

suck.

You got that right. I spent 30 years in that sh!thole before I had that frying pan-to-the-head
moment where I suddenly realized no one was holding a gun to my head and forcing me to live
there ! I sold off my excess, gave away a few contracts, and got the hell out. It was part of a
real turning point in my life where I acted instead of REacted to the world around me, taking
command of things instead of allowing the circumstances (like 300 days a year of cold and grey
and rain) to rule my life.

One of the better decisions I ever made.

It has stopped snowing now and the sun is out. Maybe today won't be so "sucky" after all ?

Hey Guys, Working in the cold is not fun, even if it's a fun thing your working on. Here in the Bay Area it's been getting down to freezing overnight, ( a bit unusual for around, being so close to the ocean). Talked to John the other day, he's trying to keep his toes warm. I have one of those torpedo looking heaters, runs on diesel fuel. I open up a window while its running to help get fumes out. Once it gets up to about 60 I turn it off. I'm in the process of replacing that trunk seal channel. There is another challenge to overcome. Trying to put it back together where it was cut, is getting real interesting. Sure will be glad when all this body work is done so I can start on the fun mechanical stuff. Jerry

Another new member here. As a 65 year resident of the wet side of the NW, this thread cracks me up. I keep threatening, after retiring 3 times, to move to warmer, drier climes, but family ties have made that difficult.

If you want to see lots of nice Forward Look cars check out the LeMay Family Collection in Spanaway, just south of Tacoma WA. They have over 500 cars on display 6 days a week, and host an open house one day in August when the family compound with 300 more is open 2 miles away, and hundreds of guests bring their own cars to show. They are great folks who love their old cars. The new LeMay Museum in Tacoma, a separate entity, has a few but they are not really enthusiasts and don't seem to care much about what they have.

Forty seven years after trading off my last '57 dodge convert, I have just picked up another one. I plan to try to get it going, after a 36 year hibernation, in "barn find" mode and then follow that up with a full restoration in a year or so. I will post more as it progresses.

I think I have a small bit of connection to John's "Big M" yard. As a graduating HS senior in 1967 I traded off my white dual quad hemi (p/s, p/b, p/w) '57 Dodge convert on a practical-for-college '65 VW bug. The day before college, after visiting my future wife in Lower Lake, CA, west of Williams, I totalled the VW. It was subsequently towed to a wrecking yard in Williams which I'm guessing was the same location as "Big M" today. After hitching a ride to WA in a T-bird that I still think was stolen, I came back to Williams a week later in my Dad's Chevy pickup and hauled the broken VW home for rebuild.

Interesting story!

Most likely, your car was towed by Leon Shelhorse, he had a wrecking yard and towing business downtown Williams from 1957-1983, then his property was locked up with all the cars still within the fenced in area. I helped old Leon sell the better cars, and we split money from any parts sold. He passed away about seven years ago, but his building is still there.

Thanks for the story!

I was 18 years old, just starting college, car was 2 years old with only liability insurance (I rolled it on a downhill corner pretending it was a Porsche....). I couldn't afford to just leave it behind, so I went back to get it (about 1200 miles roundtrip, but at only .29-.39/gal for gas), rebuilt it, and traded it off on a '66 Mustang fastback. Yeah it sucked but I didn't have a lot of options. That was payback for letting that Dodge get away.

To "un-suck" something, that would mean to blow something?

There are a lot of different meanings to that expression and I will let others add their meanings if they wish

Hey Guys, Here's a progress report. I'm presently replacing the trunk seal channel. Got one from a donar car from John. This has been a bit of a PITA. Separating the donar channel from the under lying metal and removing the rotted out channel on the car. We cut the donar channel out in one piece, but is too clumbersome to try to reinstall it in one piece, so I cut it at the joints, and working with 4 pieces. Got about half reinstalled. Took that guard piece off the end of the wire feed welder so I could get the tip slightly inside the channel to weld up all those spot weld holes. Its been kinda slow going as also have to deal with elderly parent issues. Wife is still in Brazil, so have to do my own cooking, vacuum the house once a week, whether it needs it or not. We're having some unusually warm weather, for Jan. so haven't had to use the heater in the shop. Getting close to getting this body work done. Jerry

Weather has turned to that wonderfully crazy and unpredictable, moment-to-moment spring
stuff where if you don't like it, check back in an hour and it might be completely different.

I used to hate it and just wanted summer to hurry up and get here, but after 3 years in AFG,
I am enjoying it.

This doesn't sound too sucky though .... give me a minute to think of something to complain
about ....

Doc,

A lot of guys would do the banging with the old lady and let HER take care of your business. The DeSoto is supposed to be a hobby you dig into, not a sex slave. I think you are a tad mixed up these days.

Good to see the region is still sucking. For a while there it was getting so big I thought it would blow, but it still sucks.

An afterthought from my last post......

Why is it that every time I log onto FWL.net to check things out, this thread is always on top in the PNW Region page? It is really hard to comprehend the suckiness of this region some times. I mean this entire page is almost all crying and whining about the weather. Doc especially, and he has a brand new shop his cars reside in.

I think if you are going to belong to a sucky region, you should just accept it as normal that the weather is cold/wet/hot/cloudy/haily/s**tty and be done with it.

Now, we all know how great it is to walk out to the garage and stand there looking at the project, opening and closing doors and rolling down windows, or adjusting the seat and grabbing that wheel while making motor noises with your mouth (Hemi, right?). Of course we do; that's why we suck, after all.

But lets not waste valuable suckiness hard-drive space with constant whining and moaning. Unless it's a recording of your last sexual experience, in which case it actually should be shared with the entire world on YouTube or the Nether Region.

And you California Boys (You know who you are) that keep posting about progress on your lawn mowers or trunk seal channels and throwing parties all the time are gonna lose your membership cards, whenever we start issuing them, for not keeping to a sucky level of activity. So you better watch it!

We are not above making the region even bigger, thereby diluting your membership value even more than it is now.

What are you guys thinking?

Mike

John,

Haven't been down your way since my brother and I made the trip for his station wagon parts. We probably should make a list of desired parts and make a road trip again.

That T-bird on the road yet?.

Oh crap, I forgot............activity such as this exchange may endanger the regions suckyness. Between you, me and Mister Royal we have exceeded the entire decade's worth of posts in only a couple of days.

Hope all is well at home, John.

So, it's been a long time for anyone here, so I thought I would start this again. I picked up a 3rd 56 Windsor in Caldwell, Idaho to step back and use this body to continue my original build. I traded my wife's daily driver for this Windsor, so she acquired her daughters Acura. Now everyone is happy. My wife's car was a 2002 Accent that became a 17 year old boys first car. So I have a chassis and other extra parts laying around taking up much needed space. The interior is pretty much garbage. Is anyone out there!! Hello!!

Let me tell you how sucky MY general region is .... let's see if any of y'alls
can beat this ....

About 6 months ago, the wifeperson calls me at work to report the washing
machine is inop. I make a few calls, a service guy is dialed in, but before he
can show up, the machine goes greenlight on us, and we cancel the appointment.

Two months later, we hit the rewind button, only this time the machine is DOA.
Now, this normally would not be too big of a deal, except I live in a tightly designed
house (no "design" at all, the builder just built things too small), and any old
normal-sized washer will not fit. But being in the building trade, I have good contacts,
and a new unit is acquired and placed into service. First run, we flood the laundry
area, kitchen, and stairwell.

A close inspection is done upon cleanup and all appears OK. We get a second flood.
So, a camera is placed in the drain, but cannot negotiate the tight curves and ghastly
yuck that plugs the lines. No cleanout was provided, so I am forced to cut off the
cast iron system at the slab just to do an inspection. Great news, it is broken off UNDER
the slab, UNDER the stairs !

No, wait ! .... it gets better !

See, about ten years ago, I realized we were in for a mess like this when our pipes
would lock up in hard freezes under 20º. We never broke any pipes, but I knew this
problem was staring us in the face ... a total plumbing rebuild.

So, I set about building a new house/shop in a race to have alternate living quarters
for when that work just could no longer be avoided. Y'all have prolly heard the phrase
"caught with your pants down around your ankles, right ? Yeah ....

So, .... I get to buy a jackhammer and cut a whole in the very hard 70 year old concrete
(did I mention this is UNDER the stairs ?) Yeah, the noise, the dust, the mess. It was
large on the Sucky Scale. In the meantime, I moved the washer out to the NEW plumbing
in the shop so I could open up walls and access the work, and the place now looks like a
bomb went off.

The sewer all came out .... every last inch of it, from the break, right out through the
roof vents. All new ABS with proper venting so the toilets will flush like they are supposed
to (like they never did before). That took 3 months of every free moment I had, AND THEN
I got to remove another 30% of the drywall in the house to map out and build a new copper
water system to replace the old iron the #@! had put into several exterior walls (hence the
freezing), and the last month has been tied up building that !

Almost had it done last night, but simply ran out of time at about 2300hrs. My eyes were
on fire, the brain had become a lethargic lump of goo. It was time to hit the rack. So, I
cleaned up the mess as best I could, got a couple buckets of rather cool water from the spiggot
in the yard, put them in the bathtub, and had a little "revisit" to some of my better times taking
frozen showers in Afghanistan. Good times !

But today, I will sweat in the last couple legs I cut and fit last night, install my valves, and
give the new system a pressure test. If all goes well, I should be looking at spending all winter
fixing the walls and hanging new drywall, finishing, texturing, and painting all the walls.

Now, tell me how your life sucks !

So, ... as the sucking progresses, a success in actually getting water back in the
house (yes, I CAN take a hot shower tonight !), I guess this means the suckiness
is waning for the moment.

Only had one leak, where I forgot to sweat a fitting, and a few drips at valves to
tighten up, so that went pretty well. Took me a couple hours to pack all the tools
and BS out and clean all the mess up. If the weather is better, I may take the T
out for a spin just to "take a break". I can get back to the wall repairs and other
suckitude after a few days of slacking ....

Gee...nice to know that my region "Sucks"! Never-the-less, can anyone recommend a good local northwest restoration shop for the interior...specifically the front seat. Looks like a previous owner was rather "hefty" and must have worked in a dirty location, since the driver's seat is pretty much imbedded oily black and sunken to a new low.

Vaughn & Hill were the best in the business, imagine that Vaughn's work can't be beat, especially at those non-CA rates!

Hot showers are good! Surprised you didn't use PEX, that stuff is great - fast to install, cheaper, and bulletproof. We have in our VT place only 30 miles from Canada and it's totally impervious to freezing, it just expands when it does without splitting like to old plastic stuff. Had it 8 yrs now and never have had a problem when the water goes on in the Spring. IMO it's one product that actually lives up to it's reputation. Good stuff!

Plaza coming home for paint. I will take it back to Vaughn's guys for upholstery.

Pex is great for certain apps. I harbor a pretty deep concern for fire, and PEX
gets a "fail" for fire. Copper can go to something like 4000º with water in it before
it will fail. Running water makes it even more resilient.

Copper has other good working qualities that PEX lacks, such as thermal retention
and stiffness. PEX only bends so far and is a whole bunch "unruly" in making neat
and tidy runs. To most, this is no big deal. To this anal retentive carpenter, it is "a
mess" !!!

Obviously I totally missed the humor in all this suck stuff. Guess I was taking all this too seriously. I like a good laugh as much as anyone else, and Doc you are a very funny guy. Personally, I don't think much of a 59 Dodge either, but the wife wanted this car so I was given the task of 'fixing' it for her. I didn't have the heart to tell her this car should be crushed so I accepted the challenge. The body was the only thing that was 59 Dodge so I took it all apart started back up from scratch. And it's a good retirement project ! So,,,,,laugh on,,, guys. Jerry

I dunno, I like the '59. It has it's appeal. They look angry, agressive, very masculine. Furthmore, you still have the things that make any mopar of this era a joy to drive. I would be seen in one, proudly so. A wife that wants a '59 dodge... She just wants a super handsome, super masculine car! Pretty special lady to want a '59. I sure wouldn't complain, not too loudly anyway. As long as she keeps the beer flowing and back rubs coming, keep working. Happy wife, happy life.

Here is the sucky 2-door sedan I just bought.

It sucks so bad it won't even show on post.

Let me tell you what "sucky" means to me ....

It's 1977-8 and my friend Wayne is dragging home all these old, sh!tty convertibles
he's finding around the area. One is a 60 Invicta, and I am so out of touch and a lunatic
dreamer that I think this thing is cool and trade him some junk for it. I was, right then
and there, committing myself to a life of suckitude. And for the next 15 years, I was
told by the multitudes just what an abject loser I was, based on the car they saw me
driving. From dates who refused to be seen in it, to the police who singled both my
brother and me out to harass. Owning, or even having an interest in old cars like ours
is the final word in what determines scum. Just because the world now thinks our pastel
painted garbage scows are cool changes nothing. We are all losers. We all suck. The
sooner we accept these facts, the sooner we can just laugh at the world and their "latest
fashions".

No one can suffer the missives of the Poob.

This is right up there with the Disappearing Terds thread.
I forgot to add:

Indeed, that, combined with my trio of sucky 2-door sedans, would be super suckiness.

I'd just like to point out a non sucky thing about our region. We don't have to put our cars away for the winter. Now if they would quit preemtively salting the roads I would drive a lot more. With all the transplants moving up here its difficult enough for them to drive in the rain let alone snow. So to protect them they now salt everything, just in case. Pfft sucky!

Well yes Andrew, I think we all would agree that salt is probably the most sucky thing where old cars are concerned. I was born and raised in Cleveland and I am all too familiar with salt. It sucks!!!

Very cool, but out of my price range. I hope somebody fixes that car up though. Gigantic convertibles are cool.

The suburb of Perth I am in is Bellevue, so I am in Bellevue WA

Maybe that will mean free freight?

At last, the time has come to pull the tarps off the 2nd story deck of the shop
and begin the final stage of the framing. Called this AM to special order some
18' 2x12. It rained like hell last night, making me reluctant to pull the tarps off
until the last minute. Summer just deosn't want to come this year. With the
2nd floor and roof framed, I can put a permanent roof on and be "free" of this
albatross. Free to work on finish work as I please, free to work on the cars, free
to go hunting, or roadtripping, or ......

..rain? move to the dry side...down here it was a balmy 92 yesterday....
As for those 18' 2x12 I sure hope that you use lots-o-blocking. Why not use an I-joist?

We finally got some dry, but had a good 15 minute squall again this AM.

Yes, plenty of roller blocking. I love the squareness and straightness of engineered
wood, but I am really trying to keep this place as "organic" looking as possible, and
am using no OSB-type materials anywhere. Just looks too new.

That's Nick Nichols. He owns lots of desirable late fifties cars. He's a cab driver in SF and gets to see what cars are hidden away in garages when he drops folks off. That's how he found many of his cars some years back, Luke.
