Congratulations to the new owner. The ad says "original"... wonder if that includes the color (although many '58 hardtops were actually produced in Toreador Red). I noticed that the interior is black and white, which I much prefer to the "Christine" red and white interior.

Alextodd, is it a 318 car or a 350? What options does it have?

Um, the only thing White in "Christine's" interior if it was done movie correct was the Steering wheel and headliner....The seats were a Red/darker red combo and the same thing on the door panels.....A true red and white Interior on a Christine such as my own, would be considered "Custom"....Just FYI...

So "movie correct" was a custom red/darker red combo? Did the door panels follow the Belvedere or Fury trim pattern or was it a custom design?

But the OEM red interior offered in '58 was red/white? I guess I'm not that up on what is "movie correct."

Christine style seats...(Of course, it's doesn't have the little "Fury" dip in the middle, but you get the idea)..
As for the Door panels, they were a mixture of "Fury" and "Belvey" panel styles...

Looks like a very good deal on this car. similar examples sold a couple years ago for nearly double this price.

Congrats on your new Plymouth!

Couldn't agree more with John. Even based on the portion of a photo that we have seen.

1958 Plymouth Belvedere sport coupes have managed to beat the Great Recession and appear to still be on the rise. Fantastic deal on this one.

Nice going Alextodd; welcome to the asylum!

The ad certainly implies that your car was used in the making of the movie; if it was, there will be some
documentation to that extent.

If you are curious about it, you could post a pic of your car's Paint/Trim data plate on our Fender tag Decoding message
board, and others can tell you more about your car's OEM condition, and, that site will show you how to order a copy
of the Factory's IBM Build Card, on your car, which will provide a lot more information on how/when it was built.

I doubt the owner was trying to pass this car off as one of the movie cars,he just meant it was the same car used in Christine.

Alextodd, again looks like she's a real beauty, can't wait to see the photos of her!
What options does she have?

Ah, but what IS the "correct" Christine red? From what I've read, the jury's out on that. And really, how different is it from Toreador Red? And who would know?

But then again, aren't they ALL eventually painted some form of Christine red? Yawn...

I guess homage to The Movie is paramount.

And no '58 coupes have original engines, options, etc., unless they're real Buckskin Beige Furys. They've all been modified, from what I can tell.

When the movie was being shot, SMS wasn't around yet....SO, A local Mexican American Auto upholstery shop got the nod for a "Custom" "Christine" interior....

Who would know? We do from the two remaining Christines left from the movie...

It IS different from the Factory Toreador Red...

Modified or not(Mainly as we really don't care), they are all Christines, just some aren't painted Red and White Yet..

Hi,
Yes I was.that would be cool to have the same shop that did the original movie cars do the interiors for a replica.

The seat in your photo looks great, she did a nice job!

Has your club ever gone on a pilgrimage to all the Christine filming sites?
I wonder if the "factory" in the opening scenes or "Darnells" is still around?
I've always wanted to find that place!

Sorry, we have ALL the filming locations, and Darnell's is nothing more than a parking lot now....

However, we have located the infamous "Underpass" scene in the "Death Of Moochie" scene...It is still there..
We found the High School, Dennis' house, Arnie's House, The ABC Store, Now we're working on the Death of Buddy R. scene...
We have the original movie jacket that Arnie wore, and the original movie locations from Alexandra paul....

I NOTICED THAT THE SIDE MIRROR IS IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION ON THE CAR THAN THE ONES IVE SEEN?
WAS THAT CUSTOM?
Well, in a way yes, it would be considered "Custom" as somebody installed the incorrect mirror, in the incorrect spot as well...

"Dukeboy",
Just curious,is that shop still around?

I assume your referring to the upholstery shop, and I believe it still is....The seat in the photo however, was sewn and done by a female member of the club and she did an amazing job....

Hi,
Yes I was.that would be cool to have the same shop that did the original movie cars do the interiors for a replica.

Thanks for the info! You sure know a lot about Christine!
Is there a list of the addresses to the filming sites on your clubs webpage?

Wouldnt it be cool to have some of those signs that hung at "Darnells"....wonder what became of all that stuff.

What about the Drive in? where was that located?

I would also like to find the restaraunt seen in the delect segment where Arnie catches Dennis with his girlfriend and rams the side of his car.
(great scene..I wish it wasnt removed from the film)

is it a 2 barrel carb or a four barrel? Torqueflite or powerflite?
I had a 1958 Belvedere sport sedan years back and it had the 2bbl and 318 with torqueflite automatic and if I remember correctly it would get around 17 mpg depending on how it was driven.

Right, my old '58 Suburban was a 318 2-barrel with a Torqueflite, and it got 15-18 mpg without fail. I think I coaxed just over 20 mpg out of it on a highway stretch once. Not bad for a V-8 of that era.

My gas gage barely works too. Rule of thumb, filler-up every time you take her out. Thats what I do.

Mike, with all of the gas tank sending units that are all-over the 'Pay, you have NO excuse to drive around
with a non-working-right gas gauge.

A decade(s) ago, fuel sending units were Unobtanium.

To dial-in your new sending unit, to your gauge, if the gauge needs it, you'll need to pump out (there are machines for it)
as much of the tank's fuel, as possible, so that the gauge (or the sending unit's float) can be adjusted to record a true-Empty
reading on the gauge.

Full-'full' is nice to see on the gauge, but you're only really interested in finding out when you're soon gonna begin 'coasting'.

True enough, but there's somethin to be said for fillin up and writing down the miles
on a 3x5 card so you know when you will need to gas up again - or "remembering" you
need to get more gas when there are 26,230 miles . . . or 26,250 . . . or was it 26,320 . . .
Yes sir, THAT'S the stuff that makes an old ride "fun"

Been there done that.

It's also important to know the odo-error, so you can accurately calculate your car's true mpg.
