After years of trying to match schedules, it looks like my annual trip to the Pacific NW will put me in Denver the weekend of a Mopar show in Centennial...August 21. If I make the show, can I expect to see any of you there? How many Forward Look cars typically attend?

Hi, Gary. I think I am free that weekend. If you are coming all the way from Texas, heck - I can drive my DeSoto to Centennial! Do you have some information about the show? I am not familiar with it...

I need to know how to register and make my plans.

We should have about 10 total this year maybe more since we are moving the show to a bigger location in south Denver metro area (SouthGlen mall) Glad to here that you are coming up Gary and to here Mr. Mike say he will be staying in town that weekend might give us at least 3 FL Converts there.

I haven't been to a show with that many FL cars in years, so I'm really looking forward to the event! Is it being held in the mall parking lot?

I've been checking maps of the area and it appears there is no lodging close to the mall. The nearest I could find was by the Centennial airport, or farther north along the interstate. Is that the situation? Since I was stationed at Lowry, I usually stay in Aurora and am not familiar with the south part of town.

Gary, yes it is being held in the Mall parking lot in front of Sears (who is one of our sponsors) The new club president (I stepped down after two years) is a little worried since inital pre registrations is slow. Last year we had 130 Mopars and hope it turns out as well this year.

Ray, sorry about not responding this week, been a little under the weather and still trying to get a normal work week in.

The fee is $25 for your car, they will reduce subsequent cars if you bring more then one. With the $25 fee you get a small goodie bag and a event T-shirt.

Go to www.ColoradoMopar.org and print out an online registration form and mail it in if you are interested in showing or just come by if you want to just look. Mike said he will come this year. We had him out at our show in Parker a couple years ago.

My Convert might be there on a trailer if I can find one. I will be sticking the 413 and tranny in tomorrow but just ran out of time. Still that to wire it up too and that will take a while on my car.

I had the motor run up on the test stand at Mopower Masters last weekend and it purrs like a large Kitten. The Richards are great Mopar Mechanics and friend!

Shoot! My car is not ready!!! I sure wish a TV crew would come to my house and "pimp my ride" for me! Motor and tranny is in the vert, but the wiring will take a while! I did put the inner fenders and radiatior support on today though...

The mighty 413 RB did purr like a kitten on the Richards test stand! Glad that is out of the way and so is my covenant controlled neighbors who would not like to hear a Big Block Mopar break in its Cam!

Covenants are good and bad, Bad if you have old Forward Look cars but good for those who have never been to NAPA in their lives like my neighbors. Sigh.....

Funny, they all can't wait till the car is done and crusing down the street. They have all heard me banging away on the floor boards and some grinding on the welds. I always close the garage doors when I do grind or run the compressor, Lucky my MIG welder is quiet till some sparks try to ignite my arms then there is a slight stiffing Yow!!! Got to remember to wear my welding vest....

Got a few looks last weekend when my son and I put in the motor and trans and had it dangling from my Cherry Picker sliding it into the convert.

So I am trying to be a good neighbor to all.....Surprised I have not been called before the Homeowners Covenant Tribunal for explanation of my car work. Rules say no car repair in the driveway but all's fair inside the garage!

I wish some shine would work... My Parents in North Carolina has a guy who can deliver some white lighting to them and then they could ship it UPS but it would probably be classified as Hazardous Material! LOL!

I will stick with that Colorado kool-aid (Coors) to keep the neighbors happy!

What is the best way to get to 6911 South University Blvd. coming up I-25 from the Springs?

Hi, Joe:

My guess is that the easiest way would be to take I-25 and go west on C-470 and then north on University to Arapahoe Rd.

The other alternatives would be to 1) take Lincoln (the way south Lincoln) west till you get there or 2) take Arapahoe west.

Joe, Mike's directions are spot on! That is the way I would come if coming from the springs area to the show.

I am in San Diego for three days for work, Just another 3 days of not being able to work on the car some more. Though it is very nice here temperature wise. Was able to tour the Carrier Midway here. Pretty nice display of Naval Aviation on board,

Look forward to seeing all my FL friends this Saturday at the show!

I drove by SouthGlenn Mall and there is (thought there was) an Egg and I across the street from the main Mall entrance on University. so it is on the east side of University. Just need to figure out what time "all Y'all" would like to meet for Breakfast.

Lets throw out some times that would be good for all. 7AM 8 AM ish? Or add in some 1/2 hour increments too...

Since I am car less this show, I have been asked to Drive Kent Penoyers 69 340 S white Cuda Convertible to the show, Kent will be driving his other convert the Red 69 Coronet R/T 440-Auto car. And did not have anyone to take the Cuda rag top till he called me this evening.

So no Forward Look car but still a nice drop top Mopar convert. I will bring my lap top with my 59 Plymouth convert pictures on it to show my progress or lack of progress on the convert . Not enough to make this show though with it...

I won't be there till 9:30 AM or so...But look for the white Cuda convert.

It was great to see you and the other guys today.  Can't wait to see that 59 one of these days.

Here are a few pics I took today to include the "Best in Show " guy.  I thought I took a couple of good pics of Wayne Maddox's car but there are none on my camera....darn it.

The 2nd from the last picture shows me strolling between Joe's and Wayne's cars after lifting some much needed convertible parts off of Mike's car. He of course caught me in my act of thievery (I don't think any would work in my car anyhow!) and made me return them to his car, there-by assuring him the Best of Show award. Great photo's!

Foiled again!!!!

There was a great showing of some first class Forward Look cars and even the race pedigree 58 Dodge of young Gerad Richards, Who hauled in the Young Guns award for the 2nd time in three years! Not bad for a punk kid!!! (LOL)

Ray, Your car showed very well. You should be proud. You have an awesome ride there!

Mike looked a little happy I think....Now where will he put that trophy... And he won with that "one of none" hood ornament too! Judges missed that one! (note look at the first photo that Ray posted of the De Soto's hood)

just a good car day had by all!

Guys --
It was a great show and Ol' MD2 extends his congratulations to Mike, but also his thanks to all who voted for him.
Our day didn't end up in Denver, though. Coming back into the Springs, on North Nevada at the intersection with Garden of the Gods Road, we were stopped for a red light next to one of those Nipponese "tuners" who was imitating a bee with periodic engine revs. When the light changed, it took less than a block for us to be indicating about 60+ and the rice burner at least four lengths behind. Then, about five minutes later, going south on Circle, a Mazda 6 cut us off, but then got caught by a stop light at Van Buren. Fortunately, there was an empty lane next to him at the light, so when the green came, we hit about 60 in the regulation less than eight seconds, so he was also far behind. At least the first guy gave me a "thumbs up" as he passed, but the Mazda dude used another digit. In both cases, there was no need to torque the trans or hold it in low -- MD2 definitely shows he still has some of those original 375 horses.
It really was a good day!

I didn't see any scrap metal up in Denver, but Ol' Mobe sure showed some products of the "Son of Heaven's" empire what really counts as junk. Plus, we not only had carbon emissions from the exhaust, but also some rather extensive ones coming from the tires off the line and when shifting from low to second. And there's nothing like two four-barrels howling as they suck air through unsilenced air cleaners.

It was quite an honor (and surprise) to take home the Lee Shurtleff Award. I even got to meet Mr. Shurtleff. I wish I would have taken a picture of him at the wheel of the DeSoto! What was I thinking? I hope Gary will check in and let us know that he is ok. Joe - that is a great story! Getting the bird from a burnt Japanese car must have been sweet indeed

I took some more photos of the other FL's there. I think we were there on the right day. It is a broiler today!

Oh, and Doc - Purists be darned! I convinced the whole A, B, & C body crowd that that '52 Pathfinder hood ornament was indeed a rare option in 1958 and could only be ordered on the Firedome model. Most Firedomes (and all Fireflites and Adventurers) came with the ho-hum pointy thingy up front. Heck, Firesweeps didn't get anything!

You all must have all been hiding when I was there! I arrived a bit before 10am and spent about two hours at the event. There was never anyone around the cars that looked like they owned them when I came by. Did manage to meet the owner of the 300C for a couple of minutes, and I tried talking to a few other guys, but my hearing isn't that great, so all conversation was drowned out by the band. I pretty much gave up trying to converse and just spent my time taking pictures. If anyone noticed, I was the old goat wearing the ball cap that said: US Air Force Retired.

I also met an old high school friend there and we retreated to a coffee shop for a cup of fresh brewed and half-hour of air conditioning, then we both made another tour of the cars before I hit the road again.

That's the best Forward Look turnout I've seen at any Mopar show this side of a WPC national meet and if I manage to get the '56 Belvedere hardtop completed before I kick the bucket, I would really love to bring it to a Colorado show. I love the area, and this time even had the opportunity to make a quick tour of Lowry and the air and space museum.

I know it was a first time at that location, and it was a nice place for a show, but please convince the organizers to consider moving the band some distance away the next time. Visiting with folks is as much fun as seeing the cars, but the music volume was overwhelming. The fact that the songs were from a different generation didn't help, so maybe I'm just being a grumpy old curmudgeon.

Maybe I can schedule my next trip to include one of your shows, and we could make plans to meet at a certain time.

Nuts! I am sorry I did not meet you there, Gary. If you met the owner of the 300C, you met Joe Godec - a.k.a. "Sonoramic60" on these forums. We all wondered about you and wanted to meet you, but we were a little disorganized. I knew you owned a '56 Plymouth so we were on the lookout for one. Now I know why we didn't see your car!

About 10ish or 10:15 Stanford "Blue Heron", Ray "58Ray", and John "59 Belvedere", and I all went to the Egg and I, across University Blvd., for a quick brunch and to get out of the heat. That must have been when you met Joe. By noon, we were sun-baked and retreated to the shady spot on the grassy knoll southside of the show. Next time you are in town, we will make better plans.

John organized the event for the past two years and turned over the reigns to a new group this year. He is still very well connected and I am sure he can pass along your comments.

Yup, the old fudd with the "C" was me. I hope I didn't give you the Bum's rush, though I thoroughly agree the music was too loud for a car show, especially since people attending like to talk about cars.

re: the band. This was a great show, and I want to see it even better. Dianne was sitting with several people as I was wandering. Apparently several of them commented that the band was too loud.

And some joker with a Chevrolet El Camino SS was even louder than the band! If they need a little background music, maybe a string quartet would do.

Gary, sorry we missed you! Next time we will give you one of our cell phone numbers to call when you get there. The show turned out pretty good with 97 vehicles registered, last year it was 130 cars.

But with the move to the new bigger lot and the lack of advertising in Mopar magazined and the economy. Next year we will have my 59 Belvedere convert and the Richards 57 De Soto convert in attendance. I was pleased at the FL attendance and can get better. There are a lot more FL cars in town to get out of their garages.

I am still on the car show commitee and will pass along your comments about the Band, Previous years we just played a variety of 50'60 and 70's music from a CD player. The band was a Colorado Mopar Club members family member, but we will get better at the show presentation. We had Sears and the Colorado National Guard as main sponsors so that went well.

I go several times a year to the Wings of the Rockies Air Musuem at the old Lowery AFB site. Good selection of vintage aircraft and one of the 4 prototype B-1A bomber is housed there. Last year there was a mixed make car show at that same location.

I don't know if you're aware of it, but Mr. Tuthill's wife (Julia) and my daughter Mary Beth both are violins with the Denver Pops Symphony, so it very might be possible to have some Vivaldi for ol' Doc (though I prefer Joe Green [Giuseppe Verdi], Bizet, Richard Rogers, and Cole Porter).

Joe, Dr. D mayber on to something regading the acapella and Black Sabbath....I digress...

Either way that is cool that they both do the Violins for the Denver Pops. Let me know the next time they perform at the Botanic Garden, (Great venue) that would be great to listen too.

Who is First Chair? MB or Julia?

I know there was an offical photogrpaher for this event, did anyone catch the name or website address? I know this information was at the check in table but I forgot to jot it down. Also, I tried to look for photo's on the Colorado Mopar site and discovered that there were no photo's of the event, nor was there any reference to the photographer that took the pictures. I would like to see some of the pictures that were taken besides my novice attempts at photography. The Colorado Mopar site doesn't seem to be maintained reguraly, the last message from the presdeint is addressing the July 4th holiday, no mention of the show.

Mike, because of your Best-of-Show showing, There is no way I can win this next year! Two years in a row for a Forward Look car???? Doubtful!

Even with the fact that I was the Club President for two years will not count! Sigh....Being your friend is a tought pill to swallow! How can I top this showing!!!

My only chance is if I tow a Homecoming float made up in Virgil Exners and Walter P's images to next years show. And do an re-enactment of the Mayflower hitting the shores of Plymouth, Mass!

I should just stop working on Betty Belvedere...Ray and I have a lot of soul searching to do if we want to play cars with you again!

PS Plain Hood??? I like to call it aerodynamically clean! With no parasite drag on the hood in the form of chrome "Bling" to slow me down!

Do you know of where I can get a light up Mayflower? Shhhhh! mums the word..

Yeah... I liked Wayne Maddox's car also, That was a Gem. Ray's was not bad either and all of them sure it beat my DVD of my 59 on my latptop! But I liked yours more since it is drop top and was just purrr-fect! (other then that hood ornament! LOL)

Mikey, You won this year and there will be no way a FL car could win 2 years in a row. With yours being the first year and Ray and I should not even show up in 2011 because the judging committee (I'm one of them) would more likely pick another Mopar Marque to be Best-of-Show for 2011!

Best in show was a 1950 Pymouth Woody wagon. It was stellar, I think you were in Grand Lake that weekend and at the Sutherland Casa-on-the-Lake! I will try to dig up a pic of that car.

I do like this De Soto picture too, I have it on file somewhere, There is another one from a different angle. Story on this one is that she was an "after hours" model who posed as a hood ornament in her birthday suit for some Marketing guys. Well, if you look closely you can see that the bathing suit was added in later for general use.

Today the Mopar HR dept would have some heads on a platter if they did this in today's PC world .Heck it was the 50's and .....

I think I have seen a picture from a different angle too! You are kidding me! That suit is painted on the picture? This young woman was in her birthday suit in the original shot!?! Somewhere in the wide wide world of sports must be the original picture in all its splendor. I would dearly like to see that!
