I have dual Vintage Air units in my '57, top notch quality and they work. I've seen the products of others like Old Air and they too look good. |

with a Under The Dash era after-market unit count ???

Location: Hebron, IN | My 59 New Yorker has a button on the dash for A/C. I haven't tried it yet but I don't think it will actually do anything... kind of afraid to touch the heater controls right now because the Defrost button is in the glove box and I assume it goes in the empty hole in the heater/AC panel.

Location: bishop, ca | Kevin, have you looked under your car's hood, to see if there is a belt-driven big-black-cube-thing (compressor) installed
there, and, an extra radiator-looking thing (condenser) which is installed in front of the actual radiator?
If I had a 4-door model, I'd have A/C installed in it, for certain.

Location: Hebron, IN | No there is no longer a condenser or compressor under the hood, however I do have an empty bracket for where the compressor once lived. :-)
PO had a complete engine rebuild including .030 over and new pistons, I assume they took all the AC components off at that time.

Location: Newcastle Australia | I'm installing a Vintage Air unit in my 59. Considering it's such a big car there isn't much room under the dash.
I found that space was too tight to fit the flexible ducting, so I have made up hard ducting using PVC, fibreglass and aluminium.

Vintage Air makes a great reproduction, early 1960's-look under dash unit called the "Mark IV" - might be a good option?

Location: Arizona | The problem I found with all the "classic car" ac places was that none of them have kits with the right pulley's and the compressor mounts for the older mopar engines. That's the hard part. Once the compressor is mounted and the belts are all in order the rest is straightforward generic add on. |

Location: Arizona | I guess I made it sound like I was blaming them but I didn't mean it that way. I agree with you that it would definitely be a low volume item. I found a couple of them that appeared to have the right pulley's and stuff based on their ads but when I called them and they checked it turned out they didn't actually have the stuff. Most likely they did carry it some time in the distant past. Of all the places I called the only one that offered any solution was http://www.bouchillonperformance.com/ . The put together a list of all of the stuff it would take to completely replace all the pulleys plus my PS pump so that I could mount a compressor with their mount. That added up to a fair amount of money. I did by the mount from them and after a lot of searching and false starts finally figured out what used parts from junk yards and/or ebay would work. |
