Location: Chambersburg,PA | I am looking into installing an under dash A/C unit in my 1960 Desoto that never had A/C,it has only the MOPAR 715 heating system.
What are my compressor mounting options? I have a 361 2bbl w/power steering,would like to use a Sanden style unit. I had found a kit for big blocks but the fuel pump had to me moved ect,would finding the stock brackets help then find/fab up a mounting plate?

Location: Big pimpin' | All the bracketry will have to be fabbed if you do not want to mount it down low. Only Engines to come out the factory with the Sanden compressor was the Small Blcok "LA" engine. |

Go to the nearest pick & pull type of place in your area. Do as
just as said an remove any Dodge Van, Dodge Truck or MoPar
Car 1980 or newer Dual Belt Pulleyed A/C Compressor, and any
related parts to be used on your car ( this means Engine Brackets
too ).

Some parts favor the left and some the right depending on
the vehicle that has them installed.
Remove what is as near correct for you vehicle.
Because of the added heat stress on the A/C Vehicles
while there also remove The Engine Cooling Fan from
any Mopar ( V8 ) made after 1980 ( this is an under
$10 item ). Bolt this to an NAPA # 271 303 Fan Drive
and get rid of the direct drive four paddle unit that is now
with the engine which uses more fuel, more engine power
and pulls less CFM's of air through the radiator.

Location: Chambersburg,PA | TY for the great info,I could get a orig style compressor through the NAPA store I work at but figured the Sanden would be a better choice tho I'm a bit of a purist? Was thinking of the hp to turn it and smaller size ect. Will need to use a fan clutch and shroud ect. |

Location: Arizona | I just put an underdash system in my 60 Matador. Get the 4710 compressor bracket kit from www.bouchillonperformance.com . You'll need to get a three groove crank pulley. I got one off ebay that I think came from a dodge pickup. I pulled a double groove water pump pulley off some dodge in a wrecking yard. A single groove WP pulley is all you need but it needs to be the right "height" to match the lower crank pulley. I also converted my Generator to a double pulley GM single wire alternator plus a bracket - I got both from these guys.. http://www.qualitypowerauto.com/catalog.php?item=8 . You wind up switching the way the belts are set up. On the system before you start to work on it the PS is on a belt by itself and the generator is on a belt by itself. With the parts I used and the way it gets set up you change to having the fan and PS pump on the most forward of the three pulley grooves. The two back grooves run the AC compressor and the Alternator. You need new belts because the lengths are different then the originals and there are three of them. YOu don't have to use a double belt on the Alt and AC but there is no reason not to. You'll want to change your upper radiator hose to the one the book calls out for AC cars, it's longer and you can get it positioned to where the back belt doesn't hit it. You have added one groove to what had been a two groove pulley set up and that new third groove is to the rear of the pulley which makes the belt hit the non-ac upper rad hose.
The car seems to run about 10 degrees hotter then it did before when I'm on the freeway. I believe its getting up to around 200 degrees. That's here in AZ when it was up to about 95 degrees outside. It seems to run hotter on the freeway then around town.
If you decide to do this and want more detailed info I'll dig up some of the details I don't recall off hand as I write this. |

Location: Twin Falls, Idaho | Bouchillion has a great mount for 1960 Wedge engines. I have one on my 60 Polara coupe with a Sanden compressor.

At about $100 for the brackets, there is no way (concidering time involved) that I could even come close to makeing them myself
