Quick question: I've noticed both round and oval snorkles on '59 Plymouth air cleaner assemblies (non Golden Commando cars). Was the oval snorkle an early year feature and the round snorkle a later year feature? I have a '59 Savoy (318) with the oval snorkle and my friend has a '59 Custom Suburban (318) with the round snorkle. Both assemblies are original to the car. I have three '59 Dodges that are all round snorkle assemblies.

Oval (1738020) is correct for 318/2bbl Plymouths. The round one is for 59 Dodge with 326/2bbl. Both are red. 57/8 Plymouth also uses 1738020, but painted black.

My friend's '59 Suburban has the red round snorkle. Although the original owner claims it has not been changed, I suppose in 53 years a lot of stuff can get changed on a car and then forgotten! I've seen a few other '59 Plymouths at shows and in junkyards over the past 25 years with the round snorkle and had always assumed it was original to the car. Thanks for clearing things up.

The Dodge air cleaner will 'fit' and may have been used as a replacement if the Plymouth one was temporarily unavailable. But the oval is correct, according to the parts book. Different air filter element as well.
