Location: little rock, AR | I might as well start a thread on my latest purchase. Some of you may have seen it on the Ebay/CL section. I picked it up in Dallas today. It is a running and driving car that I will refresh to make it safe . It's a slant 6, 3 on the tree, with add on under dash air. This car was sold at Fred Oakley Motors in Dallas,TX. The glove box was full of documents including the original owners packet that included the original owners info. Oh yea, it has the original WINDOW STICKER. The Delivery date was 8/12/61. I googled the original owners name on white pages.com and he is still alive at 99 yrs young. I'm going to do some more digging and see if I can contact him or his family. I hope I can download pics. Thats it for now.

Is the car yellow? I think "maize" would be the official name of the color.
She sure needs a good bath!
Again, great score!

Location: little rock, AR | I've been admiring my new ride and drinking my cup of coffee thinking of the previous owners. I wonder if they had the same feelings that all of us have by owning a FL car? I was steel wooling(oooo) and dreaming and looked on the floor and found the " Mopar COOL AIRE by Chrysler " metal strip that fell off of the under dash A/C. So I'm guessing this unit was added after it sold new. I don't have the original sales invoice to document this item. I'll post pics of all of the paper work later on. It is a light yellow color.

Location: Minor Hill, TN | It took my father 18 months to restore mine. It was well taken care of by the original owner. I really enjoy driving mine to cruise ins and shows. There are times I will take it out for a pleasure drive. I added a AM/FM / CD player to mine so I can listen to the music that was playing on the radio when it was brand new . I also tinted the windows to help keep the interrior cooler when its out of the garage . You will also see mine in a movie called Hell and Mr Fudge. My '61 fury is a black 2drht

Conditioning".
That would explain/document the MoPar under dash A/C unit, but, a dealership could have installed that system any time after
the car was sold.

Whats nice about a / is that they get at least 20 mpg on the freeway in a full size car. OBAHMA is sending meeeeees a check so I can find more places to hide my fleet. HA! Location: northern germany | if the other side is equally solid&straight (at least thats how it appears in the picture) please let me know if you want to sell it before you cut into it. a straight rust free body is the most important thing in a restoration and cars like that are getting rare. a car that has seen rust repair or sheet metal replacement will always be a patched up car, all the rest can be restored/replaced again and again but you can't duplicate a virgin factory body.
cars considered too far gone today will be worth their weight in gold in a not too far future. imo it would be a shame to destroy it for a part that can be relatively easily fabricated. if the wheel arches of the car you just bought are gone too it would be wiser to transfer its parts to the "parts" car with less rust/good floor pan... |

Location: little rock, AR | UPDATE: I spoke with the 2nd owner of this car and he couldn't remember when in the 70's that his father bought this car for them to work on together. They bought the car with approx. 26k miles on it from the original owner. By the receipts that came with the car it had 33,343 on 6/8/01. Currently it has 33,830 miles. He sold it to the dealer I bought it from @ 30days ago for $1100.00. He stated he had some pics of him and his dad from yrs ago with the car that he would send me. He was glad that someone got it that would get it going again. I'll post those pics when I get them. |

He will not register a car like this until he has gone over it and make sure it is safe to drive on the road. I converted to disc brakes on the front. With the hot air there are times when I am driving mine I wish I had AC. I hope some day when I get the extra $ I can get it added on . When you get tires if the sales man offers you nitrogen instead of regular air take it.
The nitrogen will keep the tire pressure the same , tires will stay cooler, they will last longer and you will get better fuel economy. The highest gas milage I got on my '61 fury was 23mpg. I have a 318 in mine its a 4bl and its also the original motor but it was rebuilt before I got it. |

Ethenol in today's fuel is not good for the carburators . www.pure-gas.org this will tell you the fuel stations that have pure fuel and what grades have no ethenol in it. The phillips 66 down the street from me has no ethenol in thier premium so I run that in my '61 fury
I have a 318 since I started running the 93 the motor has been running alot smoother than it did

Location: little rock, AR | Ok, here is the latest news!!! I replaced all rubber fuel hoses with fuel injected hose(expensive). I put in @ 4 gal. of real gas and hit my remote starter button and the "Leaning Tower of Power" came alive. This motor is really quite and I believe the previous owners claim to it having 33k actual miles. I ordered all new fabric and the heat sinc emblem pieces from SMS and they will be here sometime in early September. All lights, blinkers, and horn work. The carb has what I believe to have an internal leak as I can cover the top of the carb and the idle smooths out. These carbs are known to warp. I'll have to disassemble and sand the top and body of the carb to get them flat, unless someone has a good /6 carb. I also need 4 head light rings at a reasonable price. That's it for now as it is getting dark.

So, I guess what I'm saying is...you do not have to pay bigbux for really nice, but flawed, rings.
Bigbux for really nice ones, or smallbux for restorable ones, but not bigbux for flawed ones.

A friend of mine got busted for that in Louisiana... The cop showed up to act on the neighbor's complaint. He made my buddy start the car, move it forward, move it backward... that was it... not a non-op issue... The officer left, and he went back inside... thankful that the cop didn't notice he was having to use the hand brake to stop it...

This is what I did . I went to the house next door from mine with a can of orange spray paint and spraypainted a ghostbusters sign on each side of the sign infront of the house that was for sale

The pad in my '60 Plymouth looks like a waterfall sliding off the dash...haha. I wish i could find documentation in cars when I buy them. All I seem to find are rats nests and gum wrappers...
The Glo-Brite lenses will work fine...but if the car is in the sun a lot they do fade much quicker than the originals for some reason. Atleast the '57 Plymouth lenses do.

Location: little rock, AR | I buttoned up the clutch this morning and replaced a tire . Then it was time to find out more about this car. It still has carb problems but I was able to drive it for about an hour this afternoon. I really had a good time till I ran out of gas at a major intersection in rush hour afternoon traffic. A couple of guys at the gas station helped me push into a car wash. People don't know what to think about this '61. Their facial expressions tells the story,"what the hell is that" ? I also received a package this afternoon with some Goodies. This car has been brought back to life on a shoestring budget. I've cleaned the tank, replaced fuel line and filter, R and R clutch disc, changed oil and filter, 1 used tire, 2 NORS tail light len's, 2 tail light bulbs.

AS soon as I parked the car at Petit Jean they flocked around it and always had a crowd around it most of the day. People got upset that I wouldn't sell it. Sorta!!! I just have pics of it and know nothing about it. I been told the floor pans have rust holes. I'm going to get it home and see what I really bought. Dual rear antenna's are VERY VERY rare on a '61. |

Location: little rock, AR | I thought I would post pics of my 2nd '61 parts car that came with some goodies and more sheet metal that I need. If someone has a parts book maybe you could tell me what these parts # fit. These are the #'s off of the antenna bases. 1838148 and 1838149 I found the T-Bucket not far from the Belve but it wasn't for sale.

Location: little rock, AR | I worked all day on my new '61 4dr parts car. The antenna's wire and splitter are now safe from critters. I started drilling out the spot weld in the trunk so I can get the trunk pan out in 1 piece. This is going to take some time. I got some better head light rings. They're not perfect but a whole lot better than what I've been collecting. I also pulled off some of the chrome to replace the dented pieces on my HT. I guess it's time to learn how to weld with my Miller Matic wire welder. I spayed down the cyl's with PB blaster as the mtr. is stuck. The cig. lighter has never been used. If anyone is looking for some '61 4dr parts give me a call.

Location: little rock, AR | Today, I took a trip up in the Ozarks to see and old friend and attend an electric fan gathering. Since my last post I've rebuilt the carb and its a whole lot better and pulled my WWW off of my '60 Savoy to take this trip. It ran really well for what little work I've done to it. It is using some oil so I'm going to try some "sea foam" and see if that will help. To get away from the rat race and my Rental problems this trip sure lightened the load in my head. These pics are from a gravel road mountain view. I got the OK from the land owner and I pulled it down in 1st and up Frumpy went. The pics don't show the size of this mountain but I had my doubts about making it up and then sliding back down.

What do you do at those conventions; just shoot the breeze, or get long winded?
Is being a fan redundant?

I love the look of the patina on the car against the fall colors. Great images.

Pete I don't know if "Frumpy" is a he or a she but its paid for and it gets really good gas mileage vs my F150. I've been stripping out the 2nd '61 parts car. My 1st welding job with my Millermatic211 will be to install the trunk pan out of both parts cars. I need both trunk pans to have 1 good one. |

Location: little rock, AR | I really appreciate everyone's kind words. When I bought this car I knew I didn't need another car. I need to finish some of my others. But(you knew there had to be a but)Frumpy needed a new home. The little slanty just loves to run. Sonics last car show of the year is this weekend here in Little Rock. This car hasn't been seen around thses parts so I'm sure it will get the attention that it deserves. I'll be sure and get pics of the gawkers!!! |

Location: Vancouver, Washington | i had a 61 Chev bubble top. Neat cars...i really love the big three's 61 renditions, they all had very sporty roof line in their two door hardtops. That Plymouth looks awes there, now just need a Dodge, and a 61 Starliner to complete the gathering...looks like you had plenty of fun there. |

Location: little rock, AR | It was fun Sam. I agree that a '61 Dodge is needed in the pic. I'm selling my Red '61 Dodge wagon. However, I'm keeping the white '61 wagon.

Location: little rock, AR | Here is a picture of the 2nd owners dad sometime in the 90's when it was in storage. The head light rings are cut in this photo also. This pic shows it to have beauty rings with the dog dish's. Were the rings a option. The rings are not shown on the original window sticker. The son of the 2nd owner just sent me this photo from Dallas,TX. It is neat to get more documentation.

Location: Parts Unknown | Dorsey,
I meant to ask earlier, ... does that beast run a 10" clutch ? Is it adequate for the 6 cyl. app ?
My local parts store kept pushing 10 inchers on me when I rebuilt the 60 DeSoto. It would shred
them in light driving. Broke 2 centers out and one came apart at the rivets. I finally found someone
who knew the apps better and got a proper 12" clutch. Never had another issue with it.

Location: little rock, AR | Well it is FINALLY back together and I have been terrorizing the City of Little Rock. All new brakes, wheels blasted and powder coated and paint coded, new tires, and my Aero wheel. The tires are too small but for $120.00 mounted and balanced I can at least drive it. If anyone cares, you can use an Aero wheel on a non-power steering car with a 3 on da tree. I almost forgot about 3 of my headlight rings that I had straightened. They are not perfect but better than nothing.

Location: little rock, AR | For the past 2 days, Frumpy and I have had big smile's on our faces. I had paint matched to the color chip and had it put in aerosol cans. I then painted the wheels. You can see how much the car has faded.

Location: northern germany | i have a question. my 61 fury coupe has the same type of steering wheel but the horn button lacks the PLYMOUTH letters. its a manual steering (round wheel) but the horn button should be the same. not? or was this a canadian thing? (original radio does not say plymouth either, only "chryco") also it has an ELECTRIC washer pump with a neat button in the center of the switch. was that a canadian feature too? i have never seen that on a domestic 61 plymouth. |
