Location: Sept. 1958 | Well boys and girls....this 1958 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer Convertible is for sale. Absolutely beautiful in every way and any angle. The restoration was just completed, the seller is the same person I bought my 58 Dodge Convertible from.

Location: The Mile High City | Wow, Matt! That is fantastic! A Super D-500 Regal convertible tribute - it just doesn't get much better than that. What venue is the owner using to sell the car? What are they asking for this tip-top dandy? |

Location: The Mile High City | So if I had an unlimited cash supply, I would buy it, shave it down, put the Regal trim on, and repaint black and copper. The mere fact that I would even think of such a thing is probably a contributing factor to why I do not have an unlimited cash supply! |

Location: Nasco , SWEDEN | Stunning car, i love when people put together cars like they had done if they got a chance to order one "new". But for 275k you could a least expect original exhaust tips!
probably the nicest interior made for a Dodge car. personally i´ve ordered a Tan convertible top for that x-tra pebblebeach look! p.s 10 minutes a pint of black enamel and a brusch would make the inside of the trunk lid look even better............... |
|
|
|
Location: The Mile High City | Lots of interesting little "personal" touches on this car like the De Soto gas and brake pedals. If it were to sell for $275,000, it would be the most expensive 1958 Dodge ever - as far as I know.
A person could probably buy and create their own dream 1958 Dodge convertible for less - and you could have it your way. www.hernandos-hideaway.com their prices are sky high, but it appears they have sold a few.

Joke aside, very nice car - the convertible deck lid hinges leaves very much to wish fore, as we all know................

I checked out the website again. I am still shocked at the prices! He must be from the "don't leave any money on the table" train of thought.
Even a 50% off sale would be very expensive. I can't imagine negotiating with them. |

fill me with the urge to defecate, and set the tone in my head that this is just another overdone

I wonder what colors it started out with ?

Location: bishop, ca | Well, the car is made to look like a Regal Lancer convertible.
Makes one wonder what a prospective buyer would believe, or be told about the car.
If you like it, as being a glitzy hot rod/Kustom, that's one thing; good luck with that investment. But, it is no
'investment' as being any sort of legitimately built corporate car.
...Wasn't this thing's P/T plate posted, on another thread? May be thinking about that other 58 Coro/CRL red/white
vert that's been 4-sale-4-ever, too.

Like most cars on this forum. Remember ANY modification makes it not original. ANY!!! So all those bigger drum brakes, different distributors, upgraded exhaust and such! |

But at a price point in the low-six-figure range, a person in the market for a top-shelf, high-prestige finned Mopar has.............. options.
I have seen some eye-searing beautiful cars come out of that garage, with price tags to match. |

Location: The Mile High City | My understanding is that white is the correct color for the mechanism regardless of top colors. That said, each restorer could do as they see fit. I don't think the white mechanism looks bad as is. |

top color (another way to check out a clone-car, etc).
And, the boot color matches the interior, NOT the top, or the main-body color.

Location: Twin Cities MN | Beautiful car regardless. I like the uncluttered look of the 58 fin trim better than the 57 CRL trim but don't care for the abbreviated quarter stainless (sure don't think much of the grill design of 58's though.. Eeeh!). My 57 was robbed of the stock fin trim but came with a good 58 set. Thought about installing that, but figured Neil would have something to say about that, so after 2 years and considering that discretion might be the better part of valor I have gathered all the stock CRL 57 trim. $1000 later and all missing parts gathered, now to polish stainless and rechrome bumper teeth.. Have to sell the 58 fin trim one of these days to recoup some of the steep cost of the 57 trim. Just kidding Neil |

Location: The Mile High City | Congrats, Mike! That is a great car! I don't know what you may have paid (and I don't want to know), but it seems like you may have bought at the right time. I read an article in a sports car buyer's magazine recently. There was an article on a '59 Adventurer convertible from the J.S. Cars of Dreams (I don't think that's yours, but not sure) - it said that the 1950's big fin market is declining. If true, that may make the CRL convertible purchase an even better deal. Regardless, sweet deal - I hope you enjoy it to the fullest! |

| Sport Car buyers magazine is filled with idiots. I've written them a few times over their car condition reports. They're so far off the mark on the ones I'm familiar with it, it's not even funny. There have been record prices for fin cars lately, not sure how that's declining. The best cars are bringing super premium prices. A lot of average cars have come to auction and got average prices. Because their evaluators are morons, they think they're #1 cars, when they're #2- at best. I love an article that talks about an era of cars declining, while mentioning a 330k car lol. Not to mention the 57 that went for 220 behind it.
I did some horse trading on the 58. I think both sides got a great deal for the type of car they wanted. |
|
|
|
Location: The Mile High City | The article I saw came from Keith Martin's Sports Car Market. I don't even know much, but even I could see it was filled with errors. There was a lame parenthetical note at the end stating "Introductory description courtesy of Barrett-Jackson." Probably not worth the paper on which it was written. Enough of that. Glad you got the car. I am totally biased toward '58 Dodges - I just think everything was right on that make, that model year. Yours is a showcase example. It is good to have the freedom and stock to do some horse trading. That makes deals on these high-dollar cars a lot easier! |
