Hi Guys,
Looking for some help. I took my 61 pioneer for a ride this morning here in mass. I stopped at a light towards the end of my ride which was about ten miles and the car began to shake and the red oil light began to flicker. It smoothed out when I accelerated but did the same thing again when I was backing the car into the garage. The car has a 318 poly with a pertronix ignitor 2 kit with the flamethrower coil. I have bypassed the ballast resistor by splicing in a piece of wire as per the pertronix instructions. The oil was recently changed and I put a bottle of gumout fuel treatment in the tank the other day. The are was running great up rt125 at about 60 mph and it was pulling nicely with plenty of power. I looked over my pertronix install to make sure it was set up right and I think its ok. Just trying to give a background to help figure this problem out. When I installed the new coil I removed the old one and it had a small condensor looking thing hooked up to the negative coil terminal. I just assumed I didn't need it. Any help would be appreciated. The fuel pump is fairly new and the fuel filter is brand new. I also just had the transmission rebuilt.
thanks,
Ken

Agree with the vacuum suspect. Does the car have a brake power booster? My little 318 ran that way, the booster needed a rebuild... runs like a little top now

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the help. The car has oil. I am not sure about a vacuum leak. The only vacuum hoses I know of are
the one from the distributor to the manifold and the ones for the heater controls and they look fine. Is there another one I should check
Does the trans have any. I thought the shifting and push buttons were are cable driven. I started it up last night and it did not have
the same problem. Hopefully the gumout just dislodged something and it passed. I was worried my oil psi was low and I needed a
pump or something.

If your engine was about to stall out the RPMs may have dropped enough to set off the low oil pressure warning. You could always screw a mechanical sending unit & guage into the opening & check though. If the problem didn't replicate again it may have been a piece of trash or a little water bubble in the gas.

Hi guys,
I don't have a power brake booster. The car has been running great I think the gumout
must have just dislodged something. I pulled all of the plugs and they are clean. I had to regap
them anyway for the pertronix kit. Thanks for all the help. Love driving this car!!
