Location: The Mile High City | What a beautiful autumn day in Denver! I went out and took a few pictures of the rapidly vanishing autumn leaves with the De Soto front and center. It is the most picturesque time of year, especially for a red car! I hope these images will get me through some long winter months! Enjoy.

I came through Denver about a week ago, but was in hurry-up mode. Sure wish I would have had the time to stop, visit over a cup of coffee, and see some of the Forward Look cars in the area. Maybe next year.... |

Location: Malung, SWEDEN | Beautiful fall colors and an absolutely irresistible 58 DeSoto Firedome. It can not get much better. Actually visited Denver a few years ago and got the impression that the city is very modern. Went on to a place an hour away and looked at the old cars that were for sale there. Think the place was Fort Collins and the company was named Classical gas station. Is it still there?
Here in Dalarna leaves have already fallen off and we had the first snow ... |

Location: The Mile High City | Thanks, fellas! So I found a bit more inspiration this morning in Arapahoe Acres in south Denver. I have been used to photographing the De Soto in the Country Club neighborhood - which is pretty close to where I live. But the Arapahoe Acres neighborhood is famous for Usonian architecure, which may fit the design of the De Soto a bit better. They have a lot of butterfly roofs and really neat architecture. You can search for their website on Google and there is a ton of information about this little neighborhood. Fun stuff!

Location: The Mile High City | So the total give away is the maturity of the trees and foliage. The mature foliage works in the Country Club, but doesn't help Arapahoe Acres very much! Here are a few more black and whites

Location: The Mile High City | So which one suits the De Soto better, the County Club or Arapahoe Acres? Color or black-and-white?

Location: The Mile High City | Hi, Gary:
I used to leave the '51 hood ornament on all the time, but the gasket that sits under it left an impression on the paint. The impression is pretty well gone now. However, I now keep the '58 hood ornament on all the time and occasionally put on the '51 ornament for brief stints. It is in the trunk, and I didn't put it on for this little photo shoot. |

Location: NY & VT | I like the color shots in Arapahoe Acres, particularly the one with the low ranch and Cornell Circle sign in the background... color pics were the usual in 1958, and the colors of '50s cars made them even better! Red/white is sharp, but if she were mine she'd be wearing turquoise or salmon for sure! |

Location: The Mile High City | What a difference a day makes! We are probably going to get snow today and it is at least 30 degrees cooler. I felt compelled to get those images last weekend because I don't think any of the deciduous trees will have leaves next weekend! I usually take a few shots in the Country Club area, but this was the first time I brought the car out to Arapahoe Acres - it is a really well preserved "mid-century modern" neighborhood. |

Location: The Mile High City | I have to say, those mid-century Palm Springs homes are above and beyond the Usonian and International styles! I would love to get a few shots in with those houses. I do like the old-school Country Club homes though - they have a richness that cannot be duplicated. |

Location: NY & VT | Hi Mike! - we're here, until Dec 12! Our son moved out to Littleton a yr ago and is a car guy too... he's off on Friday (he's an Archeologist for FEMA). Sue and I don't have a car to use here as daughter & hub both have Co. cars (but we may be looking for one to keep here at daughter's... I saw a '74 Coronet in Applewood I like ! lol!). Anyhow he's offered to bring me over sometime when timing works for you, and we'd also like to have you over for drinks & canapés here sometime. Do let me know if that's something we can plan to do!
Also Josh (son) is wondering if there's a good U-Pull It around, we used to have fun going to them all the time in NY! |
