Location: So. Cal | The Scarebird kit offers large 11.75" discs that offer better stopping power but will not fit the original 14" wheels. I believe that the <11" aaj kit will fit inside the original wheels. So the first thing to ask yourself is if you want to use original 14" wheels & hubcaps or not. |

I've got some '78 Dodge Aspen spindles, dust plates and caliper brackets en-route from the US to me at the moment for my 59 Dodge, supposedly they will fit with some mods but I'm a bit in the dark on this fitment until they arrive and I start to get into it.
Apparently it's uses calipers from a whateveritis ??? and brake hoses from a yabba dabba doo ??? and bearings from a ding a ling ???

AAJ is the easiest and cheapest kit. Another thing is that it is serviceable with over the counter parts anywhere. |

........ The Aspen/Volare spindles are supposed to fit most of the FW cars. My '60 Plym was on the list, but they wouldn't fit. The distance between the upper & lower A Arm mounts on the '60 spindle was around 7". The Aspen one was only about 5" apart & the A arms wouldn't even bolt on, muchless have any travel. I have seen since then some ball joints with 1/2" and 1" extended shafts (Mopar Performance?) that would have restored the distance. I guess, depending on the change in distance, you could use them to not only restore OEM travel distance but could slightly raise/lower the front end. As it was I used '77 NYer spindles. The distance was only about 6" but they seem to work. I had to shorten the tie rods, tie rod ends & narrow the adjustment collars a bit to get everything to fit. |

Some extra handy advise there, thanks for that, haven't got my Aspen parts here as yet but I'll check it out and the extended ball joints as well.

Location: BELTSVILLE, MARYLAND 20705 | VAN, You are asking for trouble with this conversion, The AAJ KIT bolts right on. It will not effect your steering or alignment. Nothing changes but the brakes. You buy the calipers , rotors and hoses at your local parts store. |

Thanks for the advice, the Aspen parts are nearly here so I'm sort of kinda committed to at least looking into it, I have a good respected FL member here who has done the Aspen conversion successfully to help me along the way with what fits what and what to buy/where for it.
Trouble for me is living in Australia, no parts stores have ever heard of these FL cars down here, no chance of ordering parts locally.
If when it gets here I'll soon see if it's do-able or not but if not , yep, AAJ will get a call from me for sure.
All good advice |

Lots of folks are running the F,J,M,R brakes without all the problems often described. |

They fit good and can be used with original wheel covers. |

All of the kits? so you threw down $1200 on the wilwood conversion too? I appreciate your love of the AAJ kit, I do not appreciate hyperbole and blinders. The other kits are also viable and have their own advantages/disadvantages.

Location: Hickory, NC | Do not go the Aspen/Volare route. The steering geometry is thrown off, bump stops need to be cut, tires are way out of alignment. Really alot of trouble and modifications...it can be done easier....
The AAJ kit is simple, and works nicely. And you can keep your original 14 inch rims. I'd stick with the AAJ kit. I ordered the brackets and sourced the brake parts locally. I used a Volare/Aspen proportioning valve. |
